One week - Lyon and....
We will stay in France from December 24th to January 8th. We will stay in Paris untill December 30th, when we will travel to Lyon. A friend of us made a reservation in a restaurant for the new year's eve. We are in doubt what to do after that: Round the cercanies or come back to Paris passing trough the Bourgogne Region. It's our first travel to France. Can anyone help us?

You're in for a great time! Get wheels in Lyon, head north on the A6 (or, better, on the old N6 if you're not in a hurry) and gallivant at a leisurely pace to towns like Macon, Cluny, Tournus, Beaune, Vézelay, then head back to Paris.
Look them up and you'll see why I mention them (and in that order) - take your pick or see them all, there's a lot of beauty, wine, art, wine, history, and even more wine involved, and the food in those country places, well, say no more, they know how to live. You should be able to just drive up and get rooms anywhere in country establishments along the way at that time of year. WK |
I agree with WallyKringen. Burgundy is a wonderful area to drive around in - I really loved my 2 weeks there a couple of Octobers ago.

Topping for more contributions. I'm reading fast; did you say if you're traveling by train? What about Annecy? Perouges? later, J.

Thank you. I'm travelling by car. I have a reservation in a very good restaurant in Lyon for the new year's eve. After that I'm free untill jannuary 6th, when I come back to Paris, and I can't make up my mind! I don't know if I stay in Lyon and explore the region and then come back by train to Paris or if I just stay in Lyon for a couple of days and come back to Paris by car, passing trough the Bourgogne... Someone said to me the Bourgogne in winter days is not so beautiful than in other seasons. I'm really confused because our first time in France and I don't what to do...Thank you for your help! |
Nothing to be confused about. Just head on out and pick the first of the many places that were mentioned. See how long you want to spend there. Move on - or not. It's that simple - you're free to do as you please. no need for a plan. Ain't that great?
