One week in Italy

A friend is getting married in a town outside of Nice in the end of may. We would like to see some of Italy for a week prior to the wedding. We would like to arrive in Italy on Friday and be in Nice by the following Friday evening. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether we can fit the lakes region, Venice, and Tuscany into our trip? I think I'm being too ambituous, but I would like to hear some other opinions! Thanks.

Travel Girl,

You are probably being too ambitious. I think the lakes region and Venice OR Tuscany would be easier and allow you to absorb more of the wonder of Italy

It's ambitious, but not out of the question.

I would probably recommend flying into Nice, assuming that "we" refers to the possibility of two people who could be drivers of a rental car. If not, then consider flying into Milan or Florence. start with one or two nights in Florence or, if you prefer to see small town Tuscany INSTEAD of Florence, then stay there.

Travel by car or train to Venice on Sunday or Monday. Travel to Bellagio, Menaggio or Varenna on Tuesday. Travel back to Nice on Friday morning.

The decision to do this or not might greatly be influenced by "what month?"

Best wishes,

Rex
As an alernative, you might consider flying in and out of Nice and visiting the rea that is closes to Nice of Italy, which is Liguria. Although most tourists only visit Cinque Terre, this reagion really has some places of great interest both on the coastal part and on the mountanious inland. All the coastal part has great railways connections, while the mountains can be reached by bus from the various villages on the coast. Really worth a trip, specially if you have but one week.

You could fit the Lakes and Venice in. You won't need a car in Venice. I personally wouldn't try and do it all. 3 days in Venice and 3 at the Lakes is a great taste of both of those places.
