One week in Germany, Austria and Switzerland

I just got a stellar deal from PDX to FRA and made arrangements to fly there in late Feb.

I plan on a quick and dirty trip just to revisit some places in Germany I missed last spring while I was there, but feel I would be missing out if I did not "look around" while I was in the area.

I am thinking of going from Frankfurt to somewhere around Zurich, stopping at Baden Baden and Freiburg along the way.

From that area, Liechtenstein, maybe Innsbruck and Salzburg and return to Frankfurt for my flight back to PDX.

This is just what I have looked at a map and determined may be doable.

Can anyone give me some direction so I can firm this up? Maybe some hotel ideas? I am leaving Feb 25th and returning March 3.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

3 countries in 1 week? Are you flying from town to town?

Sorry, but I would pick one country and concentrate on one area of that country. Otherwise, you will spend all your time just getting from one place to another.

Sorry, but that's my opinion.

Thanks Betty, but from my personal experience, I have found that I do quite well jumping from place to place. Had a great 16 day trip last spring covering Paris, Brussels, The Rhine, the Mosel and Venice,Rome, Sorrento and the AC.

I love the pace

Hi,
I've got to totaly agree with bettyk.
If your doing this itinerary anyway.... Liechtenstein? We've been there. Stayed there to visit the Appenzell region. Not much to do or see in Liechtenstein (read nothing) that can't be seen in Austria or any other Alpine area. Innsbruck? I'd go with either Mittenwald or Hall in Tirol instead.

Hotel ideas:
Liechtenstein:
Hotel Martha Buehler

Hall in Tirol:
Gasthof Badl

Mittenwald:
Pension Schwalbennestl

Is Liechtenstien open during the winter months? It's a great castle, one of my favorites, high on a hill in a remote area.
How are you getting around?
Hopefully, the weather will allow you to drive there.

You seem to have made up your mind on this, and it's probably doable if you like that pace.

My husband and I went to Germany in March and although many places were closed, we had no trouble finding hotels.

Hi,
I believe he's referring to the country not the castle.

It seems that I did not give a very clear picture. The places I have listed is to show the ROUTE, not the places I am planning on going. Making an L from Frankfurt to Salzburg.

I am thinking train to the Freiburg area stay the night. Maybe do Colmar on a day trip. The rest of the trip is probably either train or cheap flights. Flight from Salzburg back to FRA (I had to do it this way instead of open jaw).

So, suggestions on hotels and any sights along this route is what I am asking for.

Thanks

Paul,

Thank you for the hotel suggestions, they are just the type of places I am looking for

pja1, oh thanks.
The country may be a little easier to get to :)

We stayed in the Markus Sittikus in Salzburg in August 06 and it was very nice. It was a 10-15 minute leisurely walk to the city centre past the Mirabell Gardens.

I would also suggest Luzern over Zurich. Much more picturesque and not much further by train.
