One way rental car in Europe - recommendations?
Hi all. Our July itinerary has us picking up a car in Munich and returing it to Zurich. Budget doesn't allow this; Hertz does but it is very $$$$$.
Are there any European agencies you might recommend that might be cheaper? The Hertz rate is 772 EUR for 10 days.
I am very concerned about the trunk space. We want to bring 3 suitcases and are afraid they might not fit in trunk. The car we have reserved could be an Audi A3 or Volkswagon Turan. To upgrade to a station wagon is an additional 200 euros.
Any recommendations/insights would be greatly appreciated.
We are traveling with our 2 teenage boys and have decided that we are going with a car instead of a train. I know many of you think this unwise, but that is our decision.

Hi again. I just called Auto Europe and reserved a Mercedes C180 for $580 plus a 69 Euro one way fee. this is significantly cheaper. The car is through Avis.
Any experiences good/bad with Auto Europe?!

Hi Karens. We used Auto Europe for our rental agency. We travelled from Germany through Switzerland, Italy for three and half weeks. We picked up the car in Frankfurt and dropped off in Pisa. We paid $1900.00 Canadian. 400.00 was the one way fee. We were happy with Auto Europe. No problems.

I use Auto Europe most of the time.
The experiences have been positive.
One year Hertz in Interlaken overcharged me. I sent a copy of the charges to Auto Europe and received a refund.
Usually the contract is with Avis, but sometimes with Hertz.

The cheapest solution is to drive as far as Konstanz and leaves the car there. It is a short train journey into Zürich. I am not sure if that fits your plans, but you don't really need a car in Zürich if that is your final spot after leaving Germany.
There are no drop-off fees for rentals in Germany with any of the major rental agenices and we usually plan around that as the cost savings are significant - especially with German having the cheapest base rental costs in Europe to start with.
You Auto Europe quite sounds good at $580 for 10 days with only a 69 Euro drop charge - about $69 day in total.

Great to hear, thanks. Auto Europe is significantly cheaper than the Hertz rate.
We are spending time in Switzerland in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, and then in going to Zurich just to fly home. Maybe we'll have the last evening to stroll around a bit, not sure yet.
