One way airfare to Venice from the U.S.

I have a Trans Atlantic cruise leaving Venice Oct 8. Therefore I need only a one way air fare. When I look at the airline web sites the fares are in excess of $2000. This is much higher than I thought I would have to pay for this ticket. I would like to spend 8 to 10 days in Europe prior to the cruise. So I am open to fly into a different city and take a train to Venice. Any Ideas????

From where?

I see a flight from ORD to Vienna via Krakow on LOT for only $668 on 2 Oct. Will that work?

You can also look for a R-T ticket. You'd only use the outgoing segment and toss the return ticket.

Try www.icelandair.com There are a few cities that icelandair fly out of in the USA. I put in a one way flight from Boston to Paris and came up with $355.

You can book a one-way flight on a low cost carrier like Aer Lingus or Air Berlin (you will connect in Dublin or Dusseldorf to an intra-European flight). Depends on your origin point.

Your cruise company or travel agent will also have some good deals on one way tickets.
Aim to arrive in Venice the day before your cruise leaves to allow for delays etc.
