one night layover in London where to stay?
 

We have only one night in London on a layover before traveling on to Rome. We have never been then and know we won't see much in 24 hours, but we need a nice place to stay that is not too far from Heathrow and not too expensive as well as a one day fun but not tiring itinerary. We just want to see the musts and not start our Italy trip too tired! Thanks

What are the arrival and departure times for your 2 flights?

Are you flying into and out of Heathrow for both flights?

What is your definition for "not too expensive"? $200? $400?

I'd suggest a hotel along the Piccadilly line if both flights are using LHR.

We are arriving late in the evening and departing around 9 pm. Both flights arrive and leave from Heathrow. We would like to keep it closer to $200 since it will really be a place to crash.

If you decide with your late arrival to stay close to Heathrow, then you should be able to find a cheap hotel here...

Some hotels have the hoppa bus facility which costs around 4 GBP to take you to Heathrow from where you could get the HEX or tube into London in the morning, and some hotels have a free shuttle bus. I presume you will have bags to store for the day, so the airport would probably be the best place for that anyway.

You could stay at Jury's Inn, which is very near Heathrow T4. I was there three times earlier this year and the cost ranged from £69 to £99 per night, depending upon the day of the week. It's a short walk, under 5 minutes, to Hatton Cross tube station, which is on the Picadilly line and will take you right into the center of London in about 45 minutes. You can leave your luggage at the hotel while you spend the day in London.

I'd stay in central London. Since your flight out is not until 9PM, you can check out of the hotel and leave your bags there all day while you see the sights. It really doesn't matter where you stay in central London since you won't be racing back for an early AM flight.

I'd pre-book justairports car service to get to the hotel (or possibly the tube depending on arrival time and which hotel you choose). And I'd priceline a hotel since $200 is only about £100 which is not a lot in London. On Priceline you can get a 4 star hotel in the middle of town for around $100.
