One night in Venice-Any Recs on a great restaurant?
 

My husband and I travel to Venice this week, <BR>any recs on a good romantic restaurant for a couple married 17 years short? (and four kids long!)

Our choice is Fiaschetteria Toscana. They have super fresh seafood, a wonderful wine list and a great cheese course. We have eaten ther maybe 5 times on 2 separate trips to Venice. The best part it the sommelier Roberto who also selects the cheeses. Start with spider crab or one of the grilled shellfish antipasti. Pastas tend to the creamy side, sometimes we skip them sometimes not. The main courses can be anything from eel (get it if its offered) to a whole grilled or baked fish to a filet with a delicate sauce. The wine list is filled with gems from lesser known wineries. Some of our favorite selctions include a gewurztraminer from Poli and a valpolicella from Dal Forno Romano (despite being a valpolicella, this is a huge red). The cheese course is the best I have ever had and ive been in the cheese business for over 20 years. All this will set you back somewhere between $200 and $200 a couple depending on the number of courses and the cost of the vino but its worth it. <BR> <BR>Be sure to see the Carpaccio frescoes at San Georgio. amazin!

Nancy, <BR> <BR>If what you want is a romantic setting, go to the Danieli roof top restaurant. The food is delicious, the service, superb, and the view, oh, my, the view is gougeous. Hi Nancy <BR>I don't know your budget, but one of the best dining experiences I've had in my life, anywhere, was recently at Da Fiore. Dinner for two was close to the equivalent of $200, with a bottle of wine. Perfect service; pretty setting;subdued, romantic atmosphere although not stuffy; and <BR>glorious food.

Nancy- <BR> <BR>We were in Venice in May and found it very romantic. The terrace of the Danieli is very nice. Also, we had some fabulous meals at Do Leoni (Londra Palace Hotel). But wherever you eat, skip dessert, and head to the Piazza San Marco. There are great little cafes with quartets/quintets playing into the night. Have dessert/wine/coffee, etc. in the square listening to the music. We did this three nights in a row and couldn't get enough of it. But don't be surprised to find a charge for the musica on your bill--I think it was about 15000L.

Don't go to a restaurant but walk around and get drunk with locals in Osteria's

I second Richard's recommendation on the Caravella. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the food, delicious. There are two settings, one inside, that decorated with a naval theme, and another outside, in the garden, used in Summer. Both are romantic, but I like the garden better. <BR> <BR>Nancy is gone already, and hopefully enjoying Italy, but others could take advantage of this info. <BR> <BR>S
