One Night in Rome

We are looking for recommendations for a hotel in Rome. We are two adults who will be flying into Rome on a Friday morning. We don't want to rent a car and drive after a 18+ hour travel day so thought we'd spend the day and night in Rome and then pick up a car on Saturday.

We're not looking for anything expensive - just a clean, safe, quiet room/private bath in a hotel that is in an area where we can walk around and enjoy the city, and that is close to a restaurant or two.

What is your idea of expensive for a hotel? Are you flying in on Friday morning or getting off a tour or cruise? Are you more interested in "the area" for food and drink or are you planning on doing the tourist thing of Rome in that one day? Answer these questions and we will be glad to toss out some suggestions.

Expensive - 350 Euro for one night at the Intercontinental! That's just crazy!! We'd rather pay half of that or less.

We're flying in on Friday morning. More interested in the area for food and drink, meeting the locals, relaxing and just enjoying the day and evening.

We just spent a week at the Albergo Cesari, off Via Del Corso - just a 2-3 minute walk to both the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. 15 minutes to the Roman Forum area. Several great restaurants nearby. We paid 185 euros for a double (including breakfast), and paid 65 Euros (for 4 people) for airport pickup.

You might like Trastevere. Look Arco del Lauro for accommodation.

If you are only going to be in Rome one night, maybe consider the Repubblica area.

Have you been to Rome before and where are you picking up your car the next day- in town or at the airport?

After several days of searching travel options, I think we're going to pass on the night in Rome.

We'll keep the names of the suggested hotels, just in case we change our minds.

I did research for the same exact situation -- first night in Italy to stay in Rome after a long flight and leave the next morning.

I actually had a more difficult time finding something affordable because i was looking for a quad, but if you want to reconsider, here's what I found all UNDER 300 euro for a quad this summer -- a double would be considerably less, I'm sure. Rates also drop in July -- not sure when you're travelling.

DUE TORRI (great reviews, close to Piazza Navona)

HOTEL MOZART (great reviews, near Spanish Steps)

HOTEL FONTANELLA (near Due Torri, same owners)

RESIDENZA ANTICA ROMA

Hotel Parlamento -- people love this place, but they have a 2 night minimum.

Lots of great places in Trastevere, but we thought it too far from the city center if you're only staying one night and are jet-lagged.

(The Albergo Cesari looked really nice but quoted me 340euro)
