One Night in Paris - Hotel &
 

Hi All,
We will be arriving in Paris on Aug 19th (CDG) at 9am. On the 20th in the afternoon/evening we will pick up a car at Gare du Nord to drive down to the Dordogne area to meet up with family.

We were in Paris once before about 10 years ago and went to Notre Dame and Musee D'Orsay the one day before I got food poisoning (memo to self: don't eat the mussels) which essentially ended the trip.

A couple of things I would like to try to do whilst there are: Louvre, Seine cruise Arce de Triumphe, Eiffel Tower, Tuileries, Monmartre.

So, what I'm looking for is a nice hotel which would be easy to get to from the airport, easy to get to the sights, preferably in a quaint neighbourhood with some awesome cafes and easy to depart Gare Du Nord.

My Excel spreadsheet tells me I've budgeted $150US for the hotel - but I'm somewhat flexible on that.

We would also like to go out for dinner on the 19th. We are definitly "foodies" so we're looking for something spectacular but will be undoubtably exhausted so would like something close to the hotel. Money is not necessarily "no object" but we're not adverse to spending a couple hundred euro on the right place. (of course a fab place that doesn't cost that much is even better)

You might be happy with a hotel along the RER-B line or Metro Line 4, both of which connect with Gare du Nord, and both travel south through the St Michel and/or Luxembourg areas.

The 6th arr has a lot of fans on this board with oft-recommended hotels, and no doubt plenty of nice restaurants (one challenge may be to find a good one that is open in August and on a Saturday night).

You probably will want a hotel with A/C in August, so your $150 might need to be bumped up a bit (unless you can get a summer promo).

p.s. don't despair -more people will post tomorrow once they've gotten into the office ;)

We are doing the same thing, 1 night layover in Paris.
I am thinking we shall stay Hilton Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport Hotel. Arrive, check in and leave backpack with over night things.
Head straight to Train Station, which I believe is right there. Spend the day in Paris. Head back by train or cab, and be right by the terminal in the morning.
Ad says Sound proof rooms and if you book no refund, was $119.00 in October.
Haven't been to Paris. But thinking this is our plan.
Any thoughts?

One of my first trips to Paris, was for a weekend, from London.
We stayed in the Lutece, on the Ille St-Louis. The price is good, but look at their website and check.
The do have air conditioning.
It will put you in a good location to get to all you want to see..definitely a quaint neighborhood.
I am too tired to think of spectacular dining for less than spectacular prices, but I am sure you will get more answers soon.
My spectacular dinner out was at Le Violin D'Ingres, Helene Darozze and then there is a place called Allard that we loved as well as D' Chex Eux..have fun planning!

For Travel Till I Drop:
The rooms at the Hilton are very nice, and $119 is a great price. Do not eat there. Even their "gourmet" restaurant had the worst food I have ever eaten.
