One night in Munich - hotel recommendations

I am looking for hotel recommendations in Munich for our last night in Germany. We (husband and I, no children) will be coming back from the alps in the late afternoon and flying home the next morning. At the beginning of our trip we are spending several days in Munich, staying at the Hotel Laimer near the Schloss Nymphenberg. This time I'd like someplace close to the train station for convinience.

I am considering the Hotel Amba and the Kings Hotel First Class - wondering what people's thoughts are on these. Any other suggestions are welcome. My budget is $175.

I also thought of the Platzl Hotel, which isn't near the train station, but it is close to the S-Bahn, so it would be relatively convinient to get to the airport in the morning. We could stretch the budget a bit to accomodate the rate if it is worth the extra cost.

Any thoughts?

J_Correa,

I like to be a little further from the train station---I prefer to walk another 5 or 10 minutes to be in a nicer neighborhood. Did you consider the Hotel Uhland?

SEcond the recommendation of the Hotel Uhland. We stayed there overnight year before last because of recommendations here. It is about a ten minute walk from the station and a very pleasant place to stay.http://www.hotel-uhland.de/enwelcome.html

Why close to the train station?
Just curious because I have flown out of Munich many times and don't stay near the train station. No need to.

Depending on the time of your flight out the next morning the Uhland (a great family run converted mansion with a super breakfast) may be a little off the beaten path. Platzl will be close to the S-Bahn as you say as will most of the train station hotels. Le Meridian is nice. Drei Lowen is very typically Bavarian, and there are several others around there. Look at OctopusTravel.com for a range of hotels.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I figured we would stay close to the train station just for convinience sake since we wont have a lot of time this last night.

I booked Le Meridien Munich for 99 US per night via Priceline last year for five nights.

It is a beautiful hotel across from the train station.

I am going back this year and will stay there again.
