One night in Munich

We will be arriving in a.m. at the airport and need to be back at the airport the following day at 8:00 a.m. We would like to see a bit of Munich--where do you suggest we stay for ease in getting back to airport early in the morning! Hilton which is by the train station or out by the airport--Courtyard??? THanks!

Bubbles76, this is for information!

I've stayed in the Munich City Hilton. The railway station is actually underneath the building with a lift that goes between the lobby and station entrance. However, it is a 40 min train ride out to the airport.
This Hilton is not central. You will still need to walk a little bit before you get to a tram stop that will take you into the city centre.
It was ideal for us, but we were there for 3 nights.
There is a second Hilton in the city but I don't know whereabouts.

Hope this helps!

I usually stay at the Hotel Anna which is in the centre of town and is beside the Karlsplatz where the train for the airport stops.

The Hilton Munich City, as stated above, sits on top of the Rosenheimer <b>S-Bahn</b> stop. You can get Line S-8 from there to the airport.

You can also take the other S-bahn trains (numerous) from that station to the center of Munich and that only takes a few minutes.

here's a system map

Thanks everyone! Would you stay at the Hilton compared to going back to the Courtyard at the airport, so we are closeby for the next morning??

Didn't know there was a Courtyard at the airport. Maybe you are thinking of the Marriott? There is a new Courtyard downtown.

With the S-Bahn going right out to the airport, I would think that you could stay downtown to get the most out of your time in Munich.

I think the S8 train start running around 04:02 AM so i would stay closer in and take an early train to the airport in the morning.

The advantage of being somewhere like that particular Hilton is the ease of getting into central Munich on the U Bahn or S Bahn trains.

But you could easily stay in any hotel in the downtown area and get a train out to the airport in the morning.

I've stayed in the Hilton twice..it is the typical business hotel.

thanks for all your help and it is not a Courtyard at the airport--just a Mariott! You were right! Thanks!

The train from the airport takes about 45 minutes to get to Marienplatz. You could either sleep in the city or at the airport and just take the S-Bahn into town to get a taste of Munich. Go to Marienplatz to see the glockenspiel (no need to hang around to see it working it is not that exciting).
If time permits you may want to go to the Nymphenberger Palace. I think it is better than the Residence. Don't miss the carriage house with all the royal Cinderella coaches.

Have a beer at the Hoffbrau Haus and if you are there at that time go to the Bavarian Evening (cheesey but fun) show at 7pm on the 3rd floor. It is a good idea to get someone at a hotel to call ahead for reservations for you, it fills up with tour busses full of people. Don't bother with the buffet there just have a beer and watch the show.

Then go the Augustiner Brewery a few blocks away for a very Bavarian Dinner.
A couple of other good places to eat are the Andechs am Dom (right behind the Frauenkirche (twin onion-dome church) and the Ratskeller in the basement under the Rathaus (glockenspiel building).

Enjoy your day. Have a &quot;Guten tag!&quot;
