One night in London - Heathrow or City Hotel?
We have a stop-over on our way home from Dublin-Canada. Arriving at Heathrow at approx. 12:00 and leaving the next morning at approx. 8:30. I am looking for recommendations for accommodation. Should we stay close to the airport and take transit into the City for the afternoon/evening? Or go right into town, or somewhere on the way and then have to get back to Heathrow early the next morning for our flight??

Normally I recommend staying in London. If you decide to do this, it would be best to stay at/near Paddington Station since the Heathrow Express will get you to the airport in just 15 minutes. Other areas in London may be better neighborhoods - but would mean having to get up REALLY early to get to LHR for your morning flight.
If you want to stay near the airport, you could leave your bags at the hotel and then run into London for the rest of the day, getting back to the hotel as late as you want. |
I have a similar scenario. We booked for $48 per night on Priceline for Heathrow, 3* and got the Holiday INn Ariel, which is on the city bus and Hoppa Line (#6, I think).

I'm doing the same as pilgrim (but was lucky enough to get the Holiday Inn Ariel for $40 on my date).

The first Heathrow Express is approx. 5:10 in the morning I would keep that in mind. I think I would stay at the airport.
