One night in Copenhagen

Good morning

My layover coming home from Rome is 19 hours in Copenhagen. There weren't any direct flights and I either have to leave a day early/come back a day early, via Royal Air Maroc (Casablanca), or, SAS via Copenhagen but the flight from Rome to Kastrup arrives too late to continue on so I have an overnight.

I arrive before 5 PM in CPH and fly at noon the next day. Realistically that means getting to my hotel around 630PM and likely leaving for the airport around 8AM the next morning. Gone are the days when two hours in advance is enough... I've been through Kastrup twice and it was a very pleasant experience but it's been a few years now...

If anyone has done something similar, what works the best? Get an airport hotel, and travel into/out of town for dinner/maybe a walk? Just how far/how hard is it to get "into town" from the airport?

This is SAS, and, assuming the airline survives until November! I am still inside the Expedia 24 hour window and am debating if I should cancel those tickets and go with Royal Air Maroc. I think the connection in Casablanca was rather short, was some of the issue.

Thanks!

SAS had filed for chapter 11 in the US for bankruptcy protection, they are being recapitalised. So I wouldn’t worry about them not being around, I believe they will be. Quite a few airlines went thru similar thing during COVID. Remember all the threads about Virgin Atlantic, Norwegian etc. They are still here.

Its so easy & quick to get to Copenhagen city centre by metro or train from the airport, you could have a nice evening there and head back to an airport hotel. There’s only one that is right at the airport. Or stay in town & get the metro back in the morning. Don’t worry about short days & dark evenings, which by November will be here. Copenhagen is well lit & cosy. They are masters of that. Many restaurants to try great food.
