One more "special" London attraction

A sample of the infamous fatberg from the sewers beneath Whitechapel has gone on display at the Museum of London (don't worry, it's safely encased in a pong-proof cabinet):

A certain US politician would undoubtedly say, "I told you so."

CBC had coverage of those fat globs and how London is actually making energy out of them or trying to.

Coming soon to a sewage system near you. My local skunkworks operation in Southwestern Ontario has launched.... uh, maybe not the right word for sewage. How about: ....has started a campaign to reduce the amount of cooking fat poured down kitchen drains. Doesn't detergent dissolve it? Apparently not. The engineers say the glop reassembles at collection areas fed by the sewer pipes. The grease-monkeys (heh, heh) provided local samples; close-up inspection not recommended. Sigh. Rich world problems, always betrayed by the enemy within.

Update: the Battle of the Fatberg is being commemorated in style:

The son of a friend of mine, who used to work for Thames Water, claims he came up with the term Fatberg.
