One Month in Greece...
 

We are going to Greece for our Honeymoon and plan on being there for all of May, any suggestions on key places to go or what not to miss?

Well, everyone will tell you Santorini is a definite must. I assume you will spend some (most?) time visiting the islands. I also really like Hydra, which has the advantage of being fairly close to the mainland, so you can get there quickly. <BR> <BR>As far as the mainland, you might consider a tour of the pelopennese. See the theatre at Epidarus, the ruins at Mycenae. Naphlion is a nice place to stay while visiting both these places. The ruins at Mistra are really spectacular. <BR> <BR>From Athens you can take a daytrip to see Delphi, a definite must see, in my opinion. Also not far from Athens is the temple to Poseidon at Sounion, try to be there at sunset. <BR> <BR>If you decide to head into Northern Greece at all, go to the monasteries at Meteora. The scenery is beautiful in the North, but not so many tourists go that way. <BR> <BR>I've covered a very wide range of territory there. probably more than you will want to cover. Just a few random thoughts. I spent my honeymoon in Greece too, and it was great.

Not everyone! I wish I'd not bothered with Santorini. Too much tourist tack and too crowded. <BR>

Obviously not everybody has the same favorites among the Greek isles. You shouldn't find Santorini too crowded in May, but if you're not thrilled with Santorini, or any of the other islands, check out the ferry schedules. You can get to another island in a few hours. Taking a deck-passage on an overnight ferry is a bit rough for a honeymoon, but the first-class cabins (with private showers) are clean and reasonably comfortable. <BR>I agree with Beth's advice about the mainland, except for Meteora. When we were there last May it was inundated with German bus tours. <BR>If you're looking for someplace way off the beaten track, and unbelievably romantic, Monemvasia (Peloponnese) is a Byzantine fortress, built on a rock overlooking the sea. Just make sure you get one of the hotels in the old city on the rock itself. <BR>Congratulations and kalo taxidi!
