Yes I totally agree with Stu-way too far away to explore the Dordogne. Popular villages around the area near Sarlat are places like Saint Cyprian, Beynac-et-Cazenac, Domme, La Roque-Gageac. While many of the villages themselves may not have the right kind of accommodations there should be lots of places in the countryside close to there.

tostaky Nov 18th, 2019 10:45 AM

28 minutes car ride from Sarlat is really too far ?

StCirq Nov 18th, 2019 10:59 AM

Mouzens is 26 kms from Sarlat, a 30-minute drive in summer traffic. Not too far at all, but surely one could find something more interesting.

tostaky Nov 18th, 2019 11:02 AM

The price is good, there's a pool and AC. Hard to found all that at the same price we got. But where would be ''more interesting'' ? And we wont be in Sarlat for 5 days.

StCirq Nov 18th, 2019 12:41 PM

St-Cyprien, Meyrals, Le Bugue, Belvès, St-Géniès, Tamniès, Rouffignac, Manaurie, La Chapelle-Aubaareil, St-Léon-sur-Vézère, Campagne, Peyzac, Marquay, Thonac, Castenaud, Vitrac, St-André d'Alls, St-Julien.....loads of towns that would be more interesting to me.

tostaky Nov 18th, 2019 12:47 PM

Its a 5 minutes car ride to Saint-Cyprien.

There are several Mouzens in France. I picked the last two on Google - but Google knows yours as Mouzens, Coux-et-Bigaroque-Mouzens, France. That location is fine. We have rented 72 gites (houses) in France. I use price to be a major factor in selecting a place if there are several in contention. I choose the highest priced gite - but I factor in the number of bedrooms past 2 (there are only 2 of us) and subtract a "guestimate" of the price of the un-needed bedrooms. I have never been disappointed. I have seen a few places in person that were quite a bit lower in price than the one we rented - they were horrible. We have rented a gite in the Dordogne for a total of 11 weeks on 5 different visits. It is 800E in August and has 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, no AC and no pool.

Thanks StuDudley !
I'm not sure to understand your method. Why would I rent something with more than 2 rooms ? Nobody would rent me a villa for 10 with a rebate if we are only 4. The one we have look into would cost 490 euro for 5 nights, and doesnt look horrible at all.

StCirq Nov 18th, 2019 02:22 PM

Go with it, tostaky. Le Coux et Bigaroque is just fine, if a bit dull. I think you'll find it's more than 5 minutes to St-Cyprien, but you'll get used to the actual time frames once you're there.

tostaky Nov 18th, 2019 03:57 PM

Google map say 5 minutes. The appartrment is near the mairie of village de conty.

StCirq Nov 19th, 2019 03:53 AM

Well, I live here and travel that road all the time, but hey, if Google maps says 5 minutes, go with it. It's not far off the mark, but what difference does it make it it's actually 10 minutes? Just don't get pulled over for speeding. The gendarmes are all over that road on Fridays.

BritishCaicos Nov 19th, 2019 04:03 AM

StCirq’s right ditch anything but The Dordogne.

There’s enough there to keep you going for months.

Le Coux et Bigaroque is probably six and a half minutes from Saint Cyprien but that was using the high performance mode on my Volvo.

It’s a lovely area, really close to Le Bugue for shopping, just make make sure the rental is away from the main road in the valley which is quite noisy.

There are lovely snd very safe swimming spots spots near the bridge at Limeuil and at Sors over the bridge and on the south bank. Sors is like something from the 1950s with a little food van in summer.

The restaurant in Paunat is called Chez Julien. It’s in a beautiful location next to the abbey and offers good food.

I’d offer you the rental we used two years ago near Paunat, it was film star status quite reasonable but it’s been taken off the market. Link your rental so I or St Cirq can have a peek.

StCirq Nov 19th, 2019 04:29 AM

You can swim in the river right under the bridge over to Le Buisson, too.

Chez Julien is wonderful.

You have almost limitless shopping opportunities in Le Bugue: an Aldi (a very good one), a Lidl (not so good), and Intermarché (overpriced, but has everything anyone could ever want), and the new Comptoir de la Bio (wonderful products at surprisingly low prices), plus the big market on Tuesdays (celebrating its 700th anniversary this year!) and small market on Saturdays. The market in St-Cyprien, which is huge and will be shoulder-to-shoulder crowded when you're there, is Sundays. St-Cyprien also has a new shopping "mall" with a huge Carrefour (there's also a small older one closer to town). The Monday market in Les Eyzies is geared for summer tourists, has limited offerings, and is overpriced.

There will be night markets in summer, too. And Mardis Gourmands in Le Bugue and Saturday night open-air feasts in the marketplace in Audrix, both with local producers and music. There will be festivals and brocantes and vide-greniers all over. You won't want for activities.

Yes, send us a link to the rental, SVP.

BritishCaicos Nov 19th, 2019 06:20 AM

I’m not going in Inter Marche again after they swizzed me.

Sold me a bottle of Chateau Beausejour Becot 2014 for e50. It should have been a bottle of bliss but when I got it back to England it was vinegar. Which is why it was on special offer.

Carrefour’s much better.

StCirq have you found Sors yet? You can watch the Kingfishers fish there and Black Kites soar above. Very special place!

StCirq Nov 19th, 2019 06:22 AM

No, BC, but I'll certainly check it out!

BritishCaicos Nov 19th, 2019 06:32 AM

Go to the bridges at Limeuil, go over the south bridge and then the west bridge. After the campsite turn right down a lane which meets the river. You come to a collection of houses, there’s a large grass terrace to park on at the side of the river, it’s shallow and there’s food in summer.

Spent days there just lazing about, just gets quite busy when it’s 30oC , clearly not this week.

Actually, just bash it into google maps, it does exist!

sorry for posting so much but I’m bored senseless doing my year end accounts and my third to last British Tax return. If I’m still filling them in for 2022, I’ll die.

tostaky Nov 19th, 2019 07:13 AM

Thnaks once again for all the help !

We will have 5 nights. Maybe we can make it longer but it will be ok for a first time visit I guess. If someone want to looks at the spot ehere it is : https://www.vrbo.com/7681538ha?adult...hildrenCount=2

Now we have to find a good base in Provence. St-Remy is kind of central but it's expensive. We want to see Avignon, Aix en provence, the provencal Colorado and Pont du Gard, ....

StCirq Nov 19th, 2019 07:39 AM

Thanks, BC. Actually, we know the owner of that campground - Cédric, lovely man - but have never stopped there. Will definitely check it out, though it's way, way too cold to go near a river right now. These winters are getting worse each year.

Can appreciate the boredom. I'm awash in French paperwork; my only salvation is preparing for our annual American Thanksgiving feast, which has caught on here in St-Cirq. 30+ people this year, so lots of prep work to do!

Tostaky, St-Rémy might as well be in California these days. Look at Maussane.

StCirq Nov 19th, 2019 07:43 AM

The place in Mouzens looks very nice, Tostaky!

now you can understand why we choose it despite not being in an ideal lication! The only bug is that the house beside and over the appartment will be rent by 6 adults and 4 kids....and occasion to make friends I guess !

And you mean by something like "st remy could be as well in Califormia" ?
