One lunch meal in Florence - best?

If you could have one meal in Florence (and not dinner), where would you have it? We are in Florence for a day, but will be leaving before dinner.

My wife is a medical resident so we are going through cities in a flash (she can only take a limited time off)

Thank you!

Two that I really enjoyed were...

- Il Profeta (near Santa Maria Novella) - I only had dinner there, so I'm sorry I can't tell you whether lunch is an option

- Il Cibreo - The restaurant is very expensive compared to the trattoria. They share the same kitchen. I had lunch at the Trattoria and thought the food was wonderful, very creative presentation, and nice service.

Pennello is our favorite Florentine lunch fix. A local first brought us and ever since we dine there as many times as possible when in town.

Comfortable but not too casual, reasonably priced, friendly service and everything on the menu consistently delicious. Signage is subtle so watch for lacy white curtains in the windows where the street opens up a bit to a tiny piazza near casa Dante (via D. Alighieri, 4r).

Enjoy your day in Florence!

Just a small correction: To my knowledge, Florence is not particularly known for gnocci. Rome is the gnocci capital.

Yes, watch for gnocchi on Thursdays in Rome. Many restaurants make them only that one day a week and might not list them on the menu.

Probably because gnocchi are delicious! Another specialty of Florence are thick soups and stews made with beans and grains.

Grazie! We do have dinner reservations at La Tartaruga, Ditirambo, and Armando al Pantheon while in Rome - I'll be sure look out for the gnocchi.
