One extra day. Need Recommendations
 

Because I decided to use my frequent flier miles to upgrade to buisiness elite class I am having to leave one day earlier than planned for our 3 1/2 week trip to Italy in September 2000. We are flying into Milano and have reservations in Bellagio for our 2nd 3rd and 4th nights. I am looking for somewhere to spend our first night other than in Milano. Am considering Como, Lecco or maybe Varenna. Does anyone have a recommendation for my wife and I who will be celebrating our anniversary on that day? Thanks

Vern, No question---drive from Malpensa <BR>direct to Lake Orta---about :45. The most romantic destination in the Lakes. <BR>Go to www.orta.net for a preview and <BR>hotels---I like the Hotel Orta but it is <BR>somewhat worn. Tell Signoria Oglina that <BR>I sent you. After enjoying this magical <BR>place, drive to Mennagio via Locarno <BR>and Lugano, stopping in Lugano for lunch. The drive can be done in 2.5 hours but take 5 hours and enjoy. As you <BR>arrive at Mennagio you will see the car <BR>ferry over to Bellagio. What a great way to start a romantic adventure. <BR>

Agree - for 1 memorable night - money no object - Villa D'Este (Cernobbio on Lago di Como) is SPECIAL! <BR> <BR>Also really like Lago Maggiore (Stresa) but since it's only one night, you will be able to enjoy the day and not have to travel far to get to Bellagio... <BR> <BR>Have a great Anniversary...
