One day/night in Frankfurt

Hello. I have about 24 hours in Frankfurt on a short stop. Without leaving the city, can anyone make some suggestions on things to see, places to hang out or other ways to burn 24 hours?

There are lots of threads on this topic. Many people suggest staying in Mainz or Wiesbaden instead of Frankfurt. i am one of those who recommends Mainz--right on the s-bahn

Heading to Mainz for me, this time, isn't really an option. I have done that before and second the suggestion. I need some stuff in Frankfurt...

I just did this myself a couple weeks ago. Ask the concierge at your hotel how to get to Frankfurt au Main. Have them write down the stops so you can ask for help if you need to. It's a lovely town square with some nice German architecture, two beautiful churches, street performers, and tons of cafes to have a latte and relax. Also just up the block is a large shopping district and some tourist shops if you would like something to bring home.

I know I took the number 11 train to get there from my hotel, though I don't know if it will be the same from your location. The train costs 2 euro each way. If you don't speak any German you will probably have to ask someone to buy the ticket for you because I was unable to figure out the ticket machine...and I am an avid traveler so I have purchased many a ticket in my time, ha!

See the recent NY Times article "36 Hours Frankfurt" and other suggestions at

Also check out Frankfurt under Fodor's Destinations for some of the popular spots.

There's lots to see and do and there's no reason to leave the city.

Enjoy!
