One day to assign a home to:

My ever changing itinerary for next March/April, currently stands as follows:
Vienna - 2.5 days
Munich - 4 days
overnight train to Berlin
Berlin - 4 days
overnight train to Paris
Paris - 7 days
Some TBD location in Belgium - 4 days
Luxembourg City - 2 days
Amsterdam - 4 days

I have one day that I haven't allocated yet. Any one with an opinion on which stop is in most need of an extra day?

Glen
PS At this point, I just want to be done with this and go make hotel reservations (I already I have tentatively picked out hotels, so pretty much I will take whatever the consenus here is. :)

Personally I would put the 'extra' day in your first location, but that's because I have a really hard time getting over jet lag and the flight to get to Europe. So I always build in downtime in my first city to recouperate.

Vienna - not because of jet lag. It deserves the time.

Agree - Vienna - it is a great place to start a trip - mmm - lovely.

Why so much longer in Munich than Vienna? I would not only add the extra day to Vienna but take move 1 or 2 of the Munich days to there too.

sandicran Nov 25th, 2010 07:39 PM

I know what you mean about booking your hotels! I vote Vienna.

quokka Nov 25th, 2010 09:30 PM

Yup. Vienna. The first day is lost anyway due to jetlag. Depending at what time of day you land, the first day is spent in either half-sleepiness or being a zombie. A city like Vienna deserves more than one and a half days.

Thanks folks, Vienna it is. Hotel reservation are made (with the exception of Luxembourg City), so stage one of trip planning has now concluded! Yippie!

Ditto (too late) to everyone else's suggestion of Vienna, but I'm curious why two days in Luxemburg? My only experience there was a few hours of a tour, and it was quite pleasant and interesting, but it doesn't seem to be in the same league as the other cities on your itinerary.

Actually, it was more a question of being able to say, "Luxembourg, yep, I've been there". I probably would have stuck with that reasoning, but it is a 6 hour train ride to Amsterdam. So, I switched the two nights to Cologne, which is a location I had contemplated earlier in the planning for this trip.

Yes, that makes sense. It's definitely fun to be able to visit some place and check it off the proverbial list. And I don't mean to dis Luxembourg at all. But if a different destination fits your schedule better, that's definitely a win...

Have a fantastic trip! I'm looking forward to reading the trip report some day! :-)
