One day/one night trip by train from Paris!

We'd like to take the train from Paris and are open to all possibilities...main interest is fine food & good wine. We're staying in Paris but are looking for a one day, one night trip by train. We'd like to spend one night and return to Paris the next day. Brugges is a possibility...any others? Anything south?

If your main interest is food and wine, why not Lyon, only two hours away by TGV? I believe it's supposed to have as many, if not more, excellent restaurants than Paris.

Here's one possibility: Take the train to Rouen, a city rich in history and culture. Have dinner at the Restaurant Gill, quai de la Bourse (especially good if you enjoy seafood).

Rouen is a beautiful city and certainly worth a visit. Please do go to Restaurant Gill - a superb restaurant on quai de la Bourse where you get some superb Normandy fare (specially superb seafood), wondeful puddings and superbly attentive service. It is a pleasure visiting this city - will always head back to Gill!! Please book.

You may like to include a meal in a restaurant car. France now has few, but the trains Paris, Strasbourg, Munich still have two each way.
Paris Est 0641, Strasbourg 1043, Munich 1513
Paris 1043, Strasbourg 1443, Munich 1913
Munich main station 0843, Strasbourg 1314, Paris 1714
Munich 1243, Strasbourg 1719, Paris 2124.

Dijon; Burgundy is famous for its excellent food and wines, and Dijon is an interesting city to visit.

YOu have many options. you can go east to Reims and visit great Champagne houses and dine at great restaurants, south to Burgundy as already listed (Lyon has GREAT restaurants). You could go east to Loire, great food and history.

We loved Normandy. Great history and the best oysters I've ever had ( and I grew up with great Blue Points!). Don't forget, there's great wine served all over France even if there's none produces locally. Normandy is more of a cider and calvados area but it's one of our favorite places in France.

YOu have lots of choices. See what everyone else says. . .
