One Day on the Way..Bern to Eindhoven!

Hi all,
Turns out, we're booked into our hotel in Bern, CH. but we have one day, Sept 10 2008, with no hotel that night. The morning of Sept 11 08 we're into Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Please suggest what to do for one day and where to sleep for one night. We wake up in downtown Bern. We want to see something cool on the way (generally) to Netherlands. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

We're driving our new Mini Cooper S. So, we'd like as many cool twisty roads as possible. Mountain passes, not ugly underground tunnels...Along the way, which road signs should I look for to make sure I go OVER the mountain, not under it?

I've been looking at YouTube postings from truck drivers to get familiar with the Swiss road signs.

I just hope you can do some mountain driving before you get to Bern, because you will not find anything like the real mountain pass roads from Bern north towards Eindhoven.

Signs for/on motorways are green in CH, for/on regular highway signs are blue.
So when you see signs -- one green and the other one blue -- for the same destination pointing in different directions, the green one will guide you via motorways while the latter will let you stay on regular highways only.

Directions for pass versus tunnel are easy to understand since both words are the same in German (or look for "Passo del/dello xyz" when driving in Ticino/ Northern Italy.

Strasbourg is one of the cutest cities and most overlooked in Europe IMO - or Colmar in France also and the Alsace Wine Strasse - both would seem to be over half way from Bern to Eindhoven

or in Germany across the Rhine Baden-Baden is one of Europe's most famous spas - great for an overnight stop IMO

Then make sure you follow the Rote des Cretes in Alsace or the Black Forest high road (B500) in Germany!

I'm sorry but I don't understand your post.

When are you in Bern? On Sept. 9? Are you looking for somewhere to stay between Bern and Eindhoven on Sept. 10?

You are aware that it takes at least 6.5 hours driving from Bern and Eindhoven on the direct route.

Some interesting points to stop at along the way:

Colmar, Strassbourg, Heidelberg
