One Day in Paris
 

Around the holidays, there was a thread on this subject that (of course) I am unable to find now that I need it!<BR><BR>I will arrive in Paris late one Thursday afternoon later this month, and fly out Saturday at noon (the earlier part of the week I will be in Edinburgh). This will be my first visit to Paris. If you were in my situation, what would be your &quot;must-see's&quot; and &quot;must do's&quot; for this short visit? I have hotel reservations in the 6th.<BR><BR>Thanks for any and all advice!

Hi<BR> Take a look at the Fodor's miniguide for Paris on the home page for a start.<BR> Remember, you can't see it all in one day.<BR> Have a great trip.

Just to name a few: The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame. Also, take the time to just stroll and enjoy the many cafes and street scenes.

Hi<BR> Forgot to mention in earlier post that it would be a good idea to make dinner reservations for Friday night.<BR> You can do it Friday afternoon by stopping in at a place you like, or ask your hotel to do it for you.

You might hire a guide for the day. There is a very nice young American art student whom I have met who does tours tailored to what you want. You can reach him at [email protected] . His charge (as I have heard from others) is very reasonable and I think you would definitely maximize this short time.

Hit one museum probably the D'Orsay to see the Impressionists. St. Chappelle. I loved Pere LaChaise cemetery but it is remote and takes at least 2 hours. See the Eiffel Tower and Arc at night and save daylight for going into buildings. Napoleans tomb is quick and interesting. Forget wasting time with dinner reservations. Just eat in the Latin Quarter.

I don't know how old you are and assume you are healthy. Having been there only twice and in my 40's, I would go to the Tour Eiffel then to the Musee d'Orsay. After that, I would head back towards your hotel and &quot;hang out&quot; or walk around in the 6th (and 5th), eating and drinking myself sick. After sunset, I would take a boat cruise on the Seine then walk back towards your hotel stopping to eat and drink some more.

In response to Pop, I am healthy and will turn 40 (sigh) the Thursday that I arrive in Paris (yes, this is a birthday trip)!<BR><BR>After checking out the links and reading other Paris threads, what I plan to do goes something like this:<BR><BR>Start with Notre Dame, Ste. Chapelle, walk along the left bank, walk the Champs Elysees / Arc de Triomphe area, the D'Orsay (time permitting), the Tour Eiffel at sunset, followed by a good dinner. Of course, I'll allow for eating and drinking and browsing during the day! I really just intend for this trip to whet my appetite for a longer Paris trip planned for 2004.<BR><BR>Thanks again!

Hi SugarPlum,<BR> Since you will be at the Arc de Triomphe, you can visit the Parc Monceau for a short while and a rest before strolling the Champs Elysee.<BR> Take Ave Wagram abt 3 blks to Blvd de Courcelles. Go right abt 3 blks.
