ONE DAY IN MADRID
 

I will be arriving in Madrid around 7:30 A.M. and my friends won't be arriving until 7:30 P.M., we are meeting at the airport then heading north but, does anyone have any suggestions on where (and how) I should go for the day (Keeping in mind how exhausted I will be). We will be staying in Madrid for three days at the end of the trip. How is the Madrid airport? I would perfer to not spend the day in the airport (surprise surprise) Is there anyplace I can store my luggage? <BR>Any help is wonderful! <BR>Thanks!

I don't know re storing luggage at the airport. Most have removed lockers. If you can find a place to store it, you might want to take a hopon/hopoff tour of the city. At least you'll be sitting most of the time and can get a feel of the city. <BR>Regards <BR>Art <BR>

It's too bad there haven't been more responses to this thread.

My wife and I will spend 10 days in Portugal in September. I wanted to do both Portugal and Spain but 10 days is not enough time to do both (adequately) and it is all we have. I was however, able to manage a 22 hour layover in Madrid on our way home.

We arrive at about 3:00 pm on a Wednesday and depart at about 1:00 on Thursday.

So... that's how long we have, that's where we'll be... what should we do ?

I know it's not much time but (I think) it's better than none.

How about for sure visiting the Royal Palace and the Prado museum, if you like history and art.

There is a left luggage facility at the new terminal, T4, so it will depend on which terminal you are arriving at if you can use it or not since it is inside the security area. If you are flying on Iberian or Air Nostrum, then there shouldn't be any problem, but you will need a boarding pass.

Take the free shuttle bus to the nicest hotel near the airport with a pool. I find lunch next to the pool in a nice environment and maybe a stretch out in the lounge chair with a good book works for me. Hyatt often has some very nice areas! Is a delightful way to pass some time. As long as you spend some bucks, I've never had any hotel mind someone actually relaxing near the always empty pool area! My luggage stays beside me at all times. Just a thought. This would work for me for one day, other traveler with 22 hours, now that will take some creativity!

Yes I would recommend the tourist bus. It is a restful way of getting acquainted with the city for your return visit. Here is the website - http://www.madridvision.es

There is luggage storage near Puerta del Sol. Cost is &euro;3 per item until midnight. Located at Calle Correo 4, 3rd floor - office 9. Website is http://www.spainstorage.com/

You can also finish your visit at the restful and beautiful Retiro Park.

I too recommend visiting the Royal Palace and the Prado but leave this for your return visit - very tiring.

Go to www.aena.es and choose english. Then choose airport Madrid Barajas. Once there on the left you'll see &quot;Passenger Services&quot;, and below that (scroll down a little) &quot;Luggage&quot;. Once in Luggage, choose category &quot;other&quot; and you are there, with map and all (T4 is big, with several floors). There is a phone nº in case you want to check in advance. I do not think you´´ll have any trouble.
For going to Madrid you can take a taxi for about 25 EUR, or, my choice, a bus that takes you to Colon square. In Colon you are very near to shops (Serrano/Goya, there is a ZARA), monuments (the neighborhood indeed is beautiful) and Archaelogical ,Prado and Thyssen museums, a short walk under the trees. And many restaurants as well.
I believe there are stops of the Madrid Vision buses in the Colon Sq.
