One Day in Dubrovnik
I'll have a one-day cruise stop in Dubrovnik the first week in September. What do you suggest?
I especially enjoy wandering through historic areas and scenic areas (i.e., beaches, gardens, scenic views, etc.) Would such areas be easily accessible from the area where the ship docks -- or would I be better off opting for a tour? Thanks! |
We've been in Dubrovnik two years in a row for a day while on cruises. The first time was on a small boat and we went on the tour offered. It was a good introduction and we had plenty of time afterwards to wander on our own. Second time, we just took the ship's bus in and did our own thing. Dubrovnik is very compact, I would get a good guide book and do it on your own. Walk the walls, etc. For a nice lunch we've been twice to Proto.. a restaurant to the right from the main gate. It's down one of the side streets soon after the gate. (Has an awning over door.) As to things to see outside the walled town we did have a scenic drive and a visit to a small village with folk dancing on that first tour. If you do your homework perhaps you could share a taxi with some fellow cruisers to places outside the town.

Hi Songdoc
We are probably on the same cruise Celebrity Galaxy ? To Grandma, Do you know if the town has minivans that can accomodate 8 persons ? We have a party travelling together ? Thanks |
On both occasions we took the ships' transportation into town and the local bus back to the ship so didn't notice what other options were offered. I'd check with the people who book the excursions on the ship.

I don't know where the ships dock, but everything in the walled town is scenic and historic. It's an extremely well preserved old town, so I can't see how you could be dissapointed. Except possibly by the crowd.

If you can walk and climb stairs, a stroll along the city walls, especially those up the hill above the city, is especially rewarding, both for the views and the constitution. Of course, just walking around within the city is also enjoyable. Then a walk down to the castellated port area, a nice meal at one of the many restaurants, and you'll have had a good day. Good luck.
