bfrac: How funny you should say that - because I've been to that region three times, always with three women friends, (two painters and a photographer, and Me, I just write travel stories for our local weekly.)

BUT, this time, I'm going (next June) with DH and three other couples, and we are staying at Montauto, one of the larger houses at La Foce.

We have all fallen in love with the area, and the estate is really beautiful, they do such a good job with all the houses, and Benedetta Isidori, who manages all the houses, is such a helpful person.

Also we have met Benedetta Origo several times, seen the gorgeous gardens and have even been invited to the big villa for lunch (due to my friend's really good Italian, and really good connections! lol)

The whole place and the towns around are marvelous easy to love. I hope you consider La Foce, although I have to say there are other places. In San Quirico d'Orcia there are now two or three good apartments to rent, and all around the area.

There are better informed people than me, like Bob the Navigator. Enjoy!

taconic, we have all 3 read the book now and can't wait to see La Foce in person. And, of course, the whole area. I will post a report when we return. Thanks for your input. Only 11 days until departure.
