These people who go to tourist destinations where tourists outnumber locals and think they will be perceived as locals crack me up. What a joke.

WHOA, there! I think we need to call a truce between NYCFoodSnob and Wojazz3... remember, messages posted on these forums lack facial expression and vocal intonations. A personal attack may not have been intended... and if it was, for the rest of our sakes, please stop!

I don't think one needs a distorted facial expression or the sound of a pig snort to know that being called a "swine" isn't a compliment. And, furthermore, accepting an apology is a truce. Nothing more is required. :@)

I'm not going to continue this. I usually come here to either ask for advice or give people as much advice as I have available. I will continue to do this and not engage in debate.
The uneducated swine remark was sarcasm not pointed at NYCFS. I'm sorry that my comments have offended any of the fine people who contribute to this board, all of who come here with the best of intentions. My last word. |
Based on the dictionary definition of "tourist", those of us that travel are tourists but, I think the negative connotation to the word comes from the days before air travel when you went by boat and "tourist class" was the lowest of accomadations. One of the most interesting slants I have read about the difference, if there is one, between a "tourist" and a "traveler" was in the excellent series "The Collected Traveler" was that a tourist merely sees a country and the traveler truly experiences it.

Bill, you're right. Upon closer reading, I see you did not call me a swine. Now, I'm sorry. ((F))
