Omonia Square, Athens and coffee

clausar, I hope you pick up on this thread because of your knowledge of your home city.

For many years I used to buy bags of Brazita coffee at a little shop in Omonia. All of it I took home and it lasted for a very long time. For me, it is still the best coffee. I feel sure the name of the shop was also Brazita but I may be wrong.

My nephew is taking me back to Athens in October and I would ask him to help me get to Omonia if the shop is still there.

Have you any idea if that great little coffee shop is still there or, if not, perhaps if there are any other outlets in the city that stock it?

Thank you

Bill

Hi Bill,

Nice to see you on Fodor's again! Enjoy your visit (I assume you will also be going to Mykonos), and I hope you find the coffee you like. :-)

Hello Bill,

I think too, that there was a Brazita shop in Omonoia, but since Brazita is a shop of the Coffeway chain, have a look at one of the following addresses :

Stadiou Street 3 - Syntagma

Gamvetta and Themistokleous Street 7 - Kaningos Square

There is also the traditional Loumidis shop in Omonoia, that should have Brazita Coffee :)

Hello dear Bill!
I am so glad to hear that you're getting back to Greece at last, with someone to help. Will you be making it to your favorite island?? I have passed along your advices so many times to people who want to see behind the scenes there... I had a wonderful trip this past June, perfect in so many ways, if it's my last one, it certainly was a Grand Finale, but I'm hoping I can get it together for another journey, if not 2014, then the next ... Have a wonderful visit.

How kind of everyone to reply.

clausar, very, very many thanks for the information. I know that only someone with local knowledge could possibly help and you surely have. I will find it and, thanks to you, I'll bring back as many green bags of my favourite coffee as I can.

Yes Don, my nephew is once again leaving his wife and children to take me on another adventure to Greece. He has done this for me a few times now and tells me he loves it there. We will be four days in Athens then off to Mykonos. The reason for the whole visit is a christening on the island. I find it amazing that I also attended the baby's father’s christening too. How about that to make me feel old? Never mind, it will be good to be back in what you once wonderfully described as the most beautiful town in the Cyclades. I hope you have been able to get back to Antiparos this year.

So nice to hear from you Jan and I am delighted you had a great time there in June. Did you return to Naxos or perhaps Nafplio? If you have time, email the details as I will enjoy reading about your trip.

To all, my thanks and very best wishes.

Regards,

Bill

Hi clausar

Just a quick message to let you know I have come home from Athens with enough coffee to last me until summer 2014!

Coffeeway was helpful but did not have any Brazita. They seem now to be selling everything under their own name and could not tell me which was closest taste to Brazita. Next, we went to Loumidis as you kindly recommended and they had four sealed packets of the green-packaged Brazita that I love. They said these were the last and they will be unable to get more. Luckily the expiry date is April 2014. I also bought quite a few packets of their own Papagalos brand and I like it very much.

A very big thank you for your help. Very much appreciated.

Bill

Hi Bill,

I am glad you were able to find Brazita.
I have looked at a huge Super market near my place for it,
but it seems to be hard to find it. :)
