Look possibly into staying in Milan,Asti or even Genoa.Check all the chain hotels even though they are really independent over there-ie.Best Western,Jolly.Holiday Inn,etc. The bad news is that the hotels were already being reserved when I was there two years ago.

This might sound crazy at first glance, but consider going into France, if you can't find anything closer. The lovely town (small city? 10,000 inhabitants) of Briancon has a charming, walled, medieval old town, and it's only about 100 km west of Turin. Some of the venues might even be closer than that. www.briancon.com

I think by now everything is booked solid all over Piedmont, including Asti, although I see from time to time posters popping up ads on Trip advisor for private rooms in Turin. You could try www.accommodation-olympic-games.com/torino or www.jumbograndieventi.it, both dedicated for finding accomodation. Myself I would recommend Milan, lots of hotels and hostels and only an hour and a half by train to Turin, lots of trains each day until late at night. good luck!

Is it an option if the locals have rooms to rent?

CAA, go to cosport web site, they are the only official sponsor of olympic committe selling tickets and accomodations. They are legit, we booked a room from them, and just checked, they still have rooms.

I agree with staying in Milan. I got a place close to the train station. It seems the spill over is in Milan. Booking.com is a great website. Good luck!

Don't give up trying to get a room in Torino at the last minute. The major sponsors and media book up huge room blocks years in advance, then often release lots of rooms right about this time frame - a month in advance.

In the meantime, be sure to have something else in case!

Have a wonderful time. Our Salt Lake Olympics were a blast.

There are still accomodation avalaible in Turin: you can find flats to rent on ebay. Look for "olympic" and you will find private accomodations.
Hope you find what you are looking for.
Have a nice travel.
