olympic / aegean air ??
May fly from athens to naxos on olympic and then aegean to crete. need to know what their baggage policy is. we'll have a regular size suitcase. Problem?
From Athens to Naxos is on a Dash 8 which is a 30 seat propeller aircraft. Regular suitcases however are not a problem. In order to fly to Crete you will need to go back to Athens to catch the Aegean flight. There are no flights from Naxos to Crete.
bummer! backtracking is no good. I guess it has to be Paros then.
You could fly to Crete on Aegean or Olympic and then when ready take the morning fast ferry to Santorini and then the Bluestar to Naxos. It will get you in by mid afternoon. Then you can book the Naxos Athens flight on Olympic. No backtracking on that plan. I did it this June no problem.
And you can't fly from Paros to Crete without returning to Athens.
Why is backtracking to Athens no good? A flight from Paros or Naxos takes 35 minutes, and a flight from Athens to Crete about 50 minutes. With the right connections you could be in Crete in about 4-5 hours. :-)
Facts to bear in mind: Only Olympic Air flies to Naxos and Paros, and the only destination from those two islands is Athens. There are no inter-island flights in that region, save Sky Express, which has limited service between Heraklion and Santorini/Mykonos. Getting from Naxos to make a flight from Santorini or Mykonos would probably be more time consuming than taking a catamaran direct from Paros to Heraklion. |
OK, OK. Whichever I choose we'll have to backtrack so Naxos it is.
Thanks for the help during my confusion. |
