Schuler,

I am not aware of Northwest having either ever served Zurich with its own metal in the past or any plans to do so in the future.

As a matter of fact, the only connections that I can find on nwa.com have you taking a KLM codeshare to Amsterdam, then flying on to Minneapolis and finally from there to Portland.

To the best of my knowledge, the only European destination served nonstop from Portland is Frankfurt (by Lufthansa).

Hope this helps,
Andre

Thanks Andre. I was given wrong info. It looks like United flies non-stop. I'll have to do more research.

I sent this to Rockford Airport:
My request to you is now I have hard cash expenses, because of Rockford asking Northwest to leave before their May sixth contract expired. I quote: Dunn said the airport board approached Northwest to end the service because it was not as successful as airport officials had hoped, specifically among business travelers flying from Rockford to Detroit who typically pay a higher rate because of short-notice ticket purchases. I feel you owe people like me who try to support Rockford Airport .You left me in a situation of rebooking my flight, hours on the phone with Northwest. I will have driving time plus gas expense, plus parking It is more than disappointing to have two international flights in less than six months fall apart. I fly internationally three times a year and domestic twice. I am requesting 100.00 to cover gas,car expenses and parking to relocate to another airport. I want to continue to support Rockford, but I need to see how they are going to take care of me too. When Rockford Airport approached Northwest about not fulfilling their contract, I hope Dunn and everyone else was thinking how they were going to compensate all the travelers they left stranded. Looking for alternative airports and driving and parking expenses does not bring loyalty.

You're welcome Schuler.

Assume that the "nonstop" United flight you're referring to is actually the Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt that United codeshares on.

Hope this helps,
Andre

Andre, how do you find your info? I went onto the United website and it said non-stop Portland- Zürich. What am I doing wrong?

Hey pj,

>I am scheduled out of Madison! <

Good for you.

I think your letter is good, pjs, but wouldn't bet the farm that they are going to give you a dime.

You should have subtly threatened to write to the editors of the local paper or something that would be more public. Maybe you should do that, anyway. Lots of local businesses don't like bad publicity.

Schuler,

Where on the United site do you see schedules for a nonstop flight from Portland to Zurich?

We must live in parallel universes if you can find such a flight on there ;-)

Hi Andre,

Finally found a website shows details at a glance. In the summary of flights, they often say "direct". In the details, none of the flights are direct. Quite confusing.

Thanks for pointing out that there are no direct flights from ZRH - PDX.

Flyboy Dec 9th, 2005 02:07 AM

In airline terms, "direct" means that the flight number doesn't change. Example: "Welcome to ABC Airlines Flight 123 to Chicago with continuing service to Orlando." That would be a direct flight to Orlando. (As a practical matter, you may not only be stopping in Chicago, but changing planes, flight crews and reboarding at a different gate.) A non-stop is exactly that.
