Old Pi Square area of Barri Gotic --good area for vacation rental?

Family of four (daughters 16 & 11) visiting barcelona for a week for the first time. after lots of research im leaning towards the gothic quarter area (though still considering e'iaxmple). i found a really nice looking flat rental in old pi square area of barri gotic, off of calle de la boqueria and calle de alsina, and wanted to ask if anyone is familiar with that location and what your thoughts and opinions are. Thank you so much!

It's very near the main drag (called las Ramblas, several connecting streets named Rambla de ....). It is a real old and congested area, of course, I think it's a bit too much so for my taste, and it might be noisy, of course, if it is right on that square. But, it has some interesting shops and could be fun if that doesn't bother you. Certainly is convenient to the metro and very central, you can walk to lots of stuff from there. Here are some photos of it http://www.barcelona.com/barcelona_d...s/placa_del_pi

I think it should be fine if you have a place you like there.

Thank you for your input. Is there a better area you would recommend?

As I said, it depends what you want. A lot of tourists would like that area and being in the hustle and bustle, I just don't but I like quiet. I think areas of the Eixemple are quieter, of course, but your kids would probably like the place del Pi, I bet.

So what are your priorities? Maybe someone else will comment as to their impressions.

Now that I've been to Barcelona I wish I had stayed in that area. We were in a very quiet area that was more a neighborhood where people lived. There weren't a lot of restaurant choices so we went to the Barri Gotic area several evenings because there was more activity.

Do you really think 4 people need 5 bedrooms? Isn't it a bit large and expensive for 4 people?

The review say that the bedrooms are at the back and quiet; one mentioned noisy on Saturday but if you don't hear the noise in the bedrooms that would be OK.

It is a bit large, but I imagine the problem is that when you want a certain size, you want that size or larger and it isn't that easy to find a vacation rental apt with 3 bedrooms to begin with. It isn't really that large, actually, I think that is only about 1100 SF which is smaller than the size of my house which only has 3 BRs and one is very small, as is the kitchen. very small. Amazing they can cram 5 BRs and 2 baths into 1000 m2, but the living and dining areas look big enough.

I do notice it is on the first floor, so only one flight up from ground. It probably will be noisy but if the bedrooms are not on that square and you are gone most of the day, that might not matter too much. It may be noisy in the evening before you go to bed, though. I dont' quite understand the terrace it shows, it doesn't really look like it is outside.

I think it is reasonable for that price, also. YOu probably only need 2 large bedrooms, though, so maybe could find something cheaper, actually, that would suit you. But if you really like this place, I think the location is fine as long as you understand possible noise issues.

And I don't believe there are any reviews for this apt on the website. The owner owns a lot and there are reviews of other ones, but I don't think this one. I viewed in on Airbnb and it was not reviewed on there, either, which is why I think that. The ones that says the BRs are in back is a different apt.

I'm looking for a place to stay in Barcelona now, although nothing like this -- so Adrienne, what neighborhood did you stay in that was residential that you thought was too far out? Just curious, I think I'm looking to stay in Eixemple and I stayed closer to place Catalunya last time. I liked that hotel but it isn't free for my dates, and I found myself going up to Eixemple most of the time to eat dinner, actually.

Thank you for the replies. I also think its not a good sign that this listing has no reviews when all her other listings do. I think I'm most torn about the area in which to stay. The gothic quarter is so interesting and different and that appeals to me, however so many people
Say that e'iaxample is a better choice.

I didn't notice that the reviews were for all properties.

The place I stayed wasn't too far out but it was not near many restaurants for dinner. I wouldn't really recommend it since the bathroom was very very small and the second bedroom was mostly bed and the place was not light except for the dining area that was next to the terrace. There wasn't anything wrong with the place but I wouldn't stay there again for the reasons I mentioned. It was near Passeig de St Joan and Diagonal.

Here's the place we were originally going to stay at; it's a long story about why we did not.
