Old Hamstead Village Walk

Has anyone done this in the winter months? Obviously, there is more to see in the summer when it stays light until much later. We have never been to this area and will not have time to see it in the daytime this trip.

HAMPSTEAD, HAMPSTEAD, HAMPSTEAD, please!

It's got lots of historic houses, dog walkers and others on the heath. It's what you'd probably call "quaint", you can see where the great poets lived if that appeals to you. However, the streets are dimly lit, and I wouldn't bother seeing it, it's merely a modern high street these days.

sorry, I'm confused

Is this an organized walk via a tour company, and they're offering it in the evening? Or do you want to go on your own?

During the day you can see the historic houses, and I really enjoyed the Freud house/museum. And the heath is pretty.
There is a book by Roger Ebert the film critic, called "The Perfect London Walk" and it is all about Hampstead. But, from a tourist perspective, I couldn't see doing it at night.

It is an organized walk and I posted the question because I was concerned that it might not be worth "seeing" at night. So sorry for the typo Your Majesty m kingdom2. I certainly didn't mean to offend you with the typing skills of my arthritic fingers. In the future, please don't bother responding to my posts. I find your remarks to most questions to be quite rude. To use a favorite expression of one of my daughters - Get A Life!

I definitely second elaine's suggestion for "The Perfect London Walk" book. This paperback covers a walk of Hampstead, Hampstead Heath, Highgate/Highgate Cemetery.

In the winter I would just get a copy of this book and do it on my own in the daytine rather than walking Hampstead at night and missing the Heath.
