Old address info

My wife and I are travelling back to where we first met in Spain, reliving our past life..... We were there in '77 and want to go to the exact building where we met all those years ago in Sitges... we were backpacking round as many of you have also done back then and the 5 and 10 $ a day books were everywhere..... we have scoured old book stores and the net far and wide but have come up empty.....

What we are after is the actual address (street number and street name) of a hotel/hostel in Sitges called the "Terminus", we think it appeared in the book as a place to stay...... there is a hostel in Sitges now with a similar name on the net called "Hostal Termes". We don't think this is the place we are after, but will check it out when we are there in a few days....

We would like any forum member who has an older ('76 or soon after) version of the $5/10 a day book (we note that bigtyke, a forum member, mentioned he has a copy and there are probably others) to have a look in it for us and post the address here... we don't feel anyone will be breaching any copyright laws in doing so. It will be such a thrill for a couple of silly oldies to be back at the exact place we started our lives together all those years ago.

Hopefully someone will help us out and come up with the, up until now, elusive address...
thanks Mr C

Can't help you specifically, MrCreosote, but if can recall approximately where in Sitges the hostel was you might go to Google maps and zoom in to the street views. Then "walk around" and see if you recognize anything. The name may have changed, but if the architecture was distinctive, you may get lucky.

I searched EBay for "Europe on dollars day" in books and found two listings for the $5 version from the 60's.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...=267&_from=R40

Maybe your place was around then. Or you could watch for the search until your edition of the book shows up.

Thanks for your assistance people..... We've walked the area numerous times on G/earth and for real and can't pick it... There was/is nothing obvious about the building to make it stand out... It may even have been demolished since there is some newer development in the general area..... such is life.....
Thnx again MrC..... Ps still open to the exact address tho...

Found this poor info about "lost amigos, Terminus, Sitges". I don't know if it might be useful for you.

I have Europe on $5 a Day 1969-70 and Europe on $10 a Day 1977-78. There is no mention of Sitges in either book. As far as Spain goes, Madrid has a full chapter, and the Costa Brava and Barcelona have brief listings in the "Tales of Many Cities" section. No mention of Sitges in either book. Perhaps you found it in another book? Was Frommer publishing a Spain book at that time?

Why don't you just ask them, MrCresote? Here is a link to the Sitges Turismo site, which has links to what appears to be their equivalent of our Chamber of Commerce. If anyone would have records (or memories) of business establishments in their town it would be them, I would think.

http://sitgestur.cat/turismo_barcelona/en

I'd suggest an email or letter to them asking your question. That is their business; to help tourists find places to spend their money happily. Write it in simple English, and attach a copy in Spanish (Google Translate is your friend). You might even offer to take the researcher out for a cup of something the next time you are in town. The Spanish, IME, are suckers for a romantic story, and if you explain about meeting the love of your life in their fair city ---

Best of luck.

Found it !!!!! in the Frommer's Spain and Morocco on $25 a Day from 1983-1984 !! The address is:-
7 avenida de las Flores. What fun ! Now, you may still have trouble finding it. Not only can the building be torn down several times, but also the street may have changed names a few times !!

My husband went looking for his old apt. from 1972 in Alcala de Henares. Couldn't find it. Plus the street had changed names, and the ayuntamiento, the town hall, couldn't locate it.

That said, it will be a fun chore even trying to find it !

Eureka........ We have found it thanks to the assistance we have had from this forum......

We are in Sitges currently and I was actually awake at 1.30am and looked in the forum for new replies and saw the address posted from Bedar (woohoo) and immediately double checked on maps to see if the street position fitted with our recollection which it did..... A voice from the dark prompted me to "come back to bed" at about 3 am.... I was going to look on G/earth then but decided to share the real thing with my wife in the morning..... When we awoke, I told her I had some information and was she prepared to wager a kiss against the info.... she wisely backed the info.... when I told her I had the address she got the kiss anyway and a bonus "I love you"....

We rather quickly got dressed and coffeed and walked to "our" beginnings.... As we approached the street we immediately started looking at numbers to confirm they were counting in the correct direction, which they were...... I kissed my beautiful soul mate in front of the building, something, believe it or not we didn't do all those years ago.....

The building has had a facelift and now appears to be for permanent residents rather than backpacker digs, so isn't quite as rough as we remembered it.....

Once again thanks to all the members who have contributed to our little slice of life... May yours be as happy as ours
Mr & Mrs C

Hello
I know that this answer is a little bit late considering that your question was done on 2013.
I am the son of the owner Marcel. The address of Hostal terminus was , Av de las flores nº7, Sitges Barcelona.
Hostal was transformed in apartment on 1992.
Take care

This is cool! I used to stay at Terminus in the 70-ties and returned back to Sitges today. I made a search on Internet and found this thread.
Christian, we borrowed Marcel's car and made a trip to Montserrat and Andorra, probably in Autumn of 1977. Hope you are doing well.
Regards. /Jan

Hi Christian, I stayed at hostel terminus in 1989 with my then girlfriend Johanne who was learning Spanish your mom and dad made us so welcome giving Jo a job and eventually letting us stay in your apartment at the top of the building.
I often think of the great times I had in Sitges and the stories your dad used to tell at the bar and also a lot of friends were made from Scotland, England,Germany and the USA. It really was a memorable fantastic place,.
I hope that you are well.
Thanks
