Oktoberstrest
Hoping someone can help a stressed Fodorite.
I have booked to arrive in Munich on 5 Oct (last weekend of Oktoberfest) and have not arranged anywhere to stay yet. I am hoping I have not left it too late.
I have done some research and made enquiries so far to Euro Youth Hotel, 4 you munchen and Hotel Helvetia. Has anyone stayed at any of these?
Would also appreciate any other recommendations for specific properties or general areas to consider. I am looking for something in the budget price-range (or at least good value-for-money) realising that rates will be highly inflated at that time.
Main features I am looking for are clean, accessible to public transport and, if possible, not too noisy.
Thanks in advance
Janine

Hi Janine, that weekend will be very busy in Munich. The hotels fill up months in advance for the entire Octoberfest. We are staying in a town about 40 km from Munich and booked that 4 months ago. To bad your not arriving earlier. We are trying to do a small GTG on Sept 27th there.
Hope you find something.
Regards,
Art
Hotel Uhland on Uhlandstrasse.
They have a website, but they are close to fairgrounds and you may be too late.

Tom

Thank you for your responses.
I got a prompt and very positive reply from Hotel Helvetia, and decided I had better jump on it. It is close to the main train station and I actually got a very reasonable rate. It looks fine from the web-site. I was hoping someone could have provided a first-hand appraisal, but I will just have to hope that it is ok.
Anyway, I am just happy I have now got somewhere to stay for Oktoberfest!!

Janine- Don't expect too much from the Hotel Helvetia and be cautious in that area late at nite. I'll leave a few brews for you at the 'Fest. Have a good time-
Ken

We stayed at the Drei Lowen Residenz which is a smallish hotel a few blocks from the Train Station. It was nice, clean, good breakfast and not too expensive. Don't confuse this hotel with its more expensive sister - The Drei Lowen Hotel.
Oktoberfest is something to see! My husband celebrated his birtday there --- it was a two day recovery..!
Prost!

Janine:

I faced the same problem a couple weeks ago. I sent a mass email to all the hotels listed on the Munich website (www.munich-tourist.de) asking for availability and prices. Most replied they were fully booked but many replied they had vacancies. We ended up at the Four Points Hotel Munich Central.

Good Luck
