Oktoberfest vs Amsterdam

Which one should I prefer? I have two days. I can either go for Amsterdam or Oktoberfest. I'll be in Bremen when I'll have to leave for either of the two.

You will spend two days drinking in Munich - Octoberfest for a single traveler may not be that great - mainly groups fill up the tents - I've popped into a few Octoberfests just to take in the show, hopping from tent to tent but after a few hours I had seen enough.

Now if you have a group of friends could be all different.

Amsterdam is not only closer but is an amazing city, especially for younger folk with all kinds of night life, including the famous or infamous coffeeshops where cannabis is legally sold over the counter and folks from all over Europe your age gather - a real convivial atmoosphere.

Plus Amsterdam is one of the world's most exquisitely beautiful cities, with its rings of canals - Munich has its attractions too but for me Amsterdam and its world-class museums too and beauty outshines Munich, especially for someone your age.

Oktoberfest vs Amsterdam

What is the over/under?

PalenQ Jul 28th, 2014 03:11 PM

Octoberfest to me is finest during the opening weekend when there are huge parades through the streets of Munich to the festival grounds - horse-drawn carriages porting behemoth kegs of beer there with the ceremonial first tapping there and ensuing cry of "Prost" is an absolute highlight - meaning let the beer flow and to pipe up the oompah bands.

Beer steins vs. Rembrandts. I know which one I would pick.

Dukey - booze ain't everything in life you know!

What about Hamburg . If you dont smoke pot it is better than Amsterdamxxx

bilboburgler Jul 28th, 2014 11:38 PM

Well if you like beer then go to Beligium maybe Brussels or Brugges. Hamburg is easy from Bremen and you could also go to the ancient cities of Lubeck or Luneburg on a day trip

Amsterdam, plenty to see and visit

Munich, you need a bunch of friends to get drunk with

Well, I am traveling with one friend. My flight lands in Hamburg only. I'll stay for a day there. Am I missing something here regarding Hamburg?
I have 5 days to travel after Bremen. Following are two plans and as students, our budget is on the low side:

1)Bremen - Amsterdam -Paris
2)Bremen - Berlin/Prague - Munich - Paris

Please give your suggestions as to what would be more feasible? Given the location of Bremen, 1st option seems more feasible but it is just the calling of Oktoberfest that is confusing me :D.

I once saw Oktoberfest described as being like "a keg party in the psycho ward".

Living in Munich, I'd strongly lean towards Amsterdam.
Much more to do and to see there.
Oktoberfest is massive, but in the end it's just a really big fun fair with big crowded tents with expensive beer.
