Oktoberfest...how to dress?
We are going to Oktoberfest for the first time on September 18-21st and were wondering how to dress for this event?
What we are really wondering is how hot are the tents? If you tell me it is hot is it ok to wear shorts? Also if we don't have reservations since there will only be 3 or 4 of us do we just go in to any tent that has room? Thanks |
Check the weather before you go, it may be warm, it was when we were there.
Dress comfortably. Shorts are fine. Think about lederhosen -- you'll see lots of men in them. You don't absolutely need to make reservations. There were only 2 of us, but there was room at the tables. We were welcomed and toasted back and forth despite the lack of German on our part. It's a great time. Crowded, but great. Have fun. ((c)) |
Don't dress too fancy. I did get some beer spilt on me once, and my clothes smelled of beer and tobacco for the next day or two.
I don't recall being overly cold nor hot. |
I was at Oktoberfest last Sept. The weather was really nice. I wore jeans and T-shirt; my son wore shorts and T-shirt. We looked just like everyone else. We are both blonde and we must look like Germans because we always have other Germans to ask us for directions.

Be prepared for almost any weather. I think 2 of the last 5 years were almost record breaking cold and rain.

i was there last year and i agree to dress for the weather (it rained like crazy when i was there). you will see ALL sorts of dress so don't worry, just be comfortable. the tents were quite warm but it might be useful to have the option to sit outside if you want (for fresh air and more space or if the tents are full when you go).

Just don't wear white sneakers after Labor Day
|
I was there in 2004. It was raining and it was cold. I had on 3 layers of shirts and a sweater. We still had a blast! We spent another week in Bavaria with beautiful, warm weather after that day. Be prepared for anything.

Wear what you want but in order to really fit in, buy one of those giant cookies that people wear around their necks.
