Oktoberfest
I can't beleive they had it without me!
http://www.loewenbraeu.de/4_gastro_e...bcam/index.htm We were in this tent last year: http://wiesnweb.heinemann-elektro.de/ |
Now what's so interesting to get drunk between a bunch of strangers. A band playing bad music and urging you to drink faster every few minutes? No, it's done differently. First buy yourself a few beer benches and tables (Garnituren) at you local hardware store. They are amazingly cheap. Now look for a nice summer (October's just too cold) evening. Invite your friends, get one or two barrels of Augustiner beer (50 liters will do). Get a party service for steaks, Kraut, potatoe salad etc.. Now let the party begin!
Can't tell you how much I hate this stupid Oktober"fest". What a waste of time and money... |
As much as my hubby and I love Germany, Oktoberfest has never seemed like it would be tons of fun.
Then I would suggest you don't go.
As long as those drunken boneheads refrain from yelling in the streets after midnight and fighting eachother everything is o.k. I can even cope with the crowded undergrounds. Umfortunately they don't how to behave! I just hope this SH** is over soon. 3 more days..., sigh...
The Octoberfest reminded me of a bad fraternity party--on a huge scale. Once was more than enough.
Logos99, I feel for you if you are directly impacted by the event. I have been to the fest 3 times, but never past 8 pm. I do enjoy the local fests more.
Thanks! An american tourist stabbed an italian today, both drunk and fighting. The italian is in critical condition at the hospital, the american has been brought to the militray base in Garmisch. Those things normally don't happen here during the rest of the year.
We did the big Oktoberfest once (1997) and once was enough. A few years later, we were in a Franconian village for their annual fest and it was a LOT more enjoyable in every way.
Hi Logos! Is Paris Hilton still at the Oktoberfest? I saw her on TV in a beautiful gold dirndel and wearing braids. The dirndel is probably the most expensive one available. I think she was there to promote her champagne "Rich Prosecco" in a can. This female is anywhere where parties and alcohol are.
I heared she's no longer here. She wanted to make a big promo show for "canned Prosecco" (whatever that would be?), but they didn't let her. Verona and the usual bunch of "oh so important people" are there. Well I'm happy to be able use the underground again starting wednesday.
Hi Logos! Our Swiss local celebrities are called "cervelat promis". Verona would definitely fit that bill.
Hi schuler, you can watch ALL the idiocy live on MünchenTV on Astra and as stream on the internet www.muenchentv.de. Verona included.
We did the Stutgart version... it was great! Then again we were there in the afternoon.
logos - I like your plan. Sounds a lot more fun to me than Oktoberfest itself.
There are many ways to enjoy when in Germany. We have friends that live in Großmehring. When we were there last there was a competition going on with dancers and musicians that came in on buses from other towns/regions. Beer and food also. We had a great time! We've been to many local town fests with rides and roast chicken, and best of all pickled herring sandwiches. Which my wife finds disgusting but I grew up eating. I did learn to smoke cheap cigars at Oktoberfest. Then I was a year before I could touch another one. This kind man bought us two beers (about 17 Euro) when I bought him a 1 Euro cigar. http://www.thirdmansystems.com/vacat...s/DSC02023.htm

>pickled herring sandwiches
This is so awful! ;-( Please, meat and potatoes!! |
logos,
it is not polite and intelligent to insult people's food prefferences. I hope you blushing in shame. To me whenever i am feeling like octoberfesting I go to local German farm and buy kraut and bratwursts/knockwursts and get me a Fest...Novemberfest, Decemberfest...uhmm...uhmmm...tasty! |
What can I say! Its just something my mom started me on. Bloodtongue anyone? I'm very fortunate that where I live in the US there is a very good authentic Bavarian restaurant with a beer garden.
http://www.schmankerlstube.com My wife and I are going there for lunch tomorrow. Superb and well worth a trip if you are within 100 mile radius. Or more. |
We were pleasantly surprised to find that Oktoberfest was more than just a big drunk fest. We loved it!
