There are dozens of possibilities so you probably need to give a bit more information to help narrow it down more before people give you specific ideas. I have recently bought an interesting magazine, called something like Time Out's Top 100 Weekend European breaks which is full of information.

- do you have a preferred departure airport?
- are you looking for a weekend break with one of the no-frills airlines?
- what do you want to do - relax, sighstee?
- do you want big city/little city?
- are you interested in art/museums/architecture/shopping?
- have you been anywhere in Europe already?
- is cost an issue?

I'd do Paris. It's easy to get to from London..very quick if you can do the Eurostar and it's great for seeing the sites or just for strolling around, eating, drinking cafe and wine..and just what ever.

We are flying EasyJet from London to Bologna on the 1st weekend in October. It's a good connection and Bologna seems to be a great destination - with wonderful gourmet foods and market. Ravenna is just an 1hour 1/2 away if you are in the mood for fantastic mosaics!

Now bear in mind, I have never BEEN to Bologna or experienced any of this first hand - but from the messages posted here, I know it will be super great.

I've lived in London for the last 8 years and have done numerous weekend trips to the continent. Here are my most memorable:
- Paris, France (by Eurostar from Waterloo St in Central London)
- Berlin, Germany (flying)
- Barcelona, Spain (flying)
- Venice, Italy (flying)
- Dublin, Ireland (flying)
- Edinburgh, Scotland (train)

If I had to choose, I'd definitely go to Venice, Berlin and Barcelona again.

Paris, without a doubt. 2.5 hours on the Eurostar.

We were in London last year and took a 4-day trip to Prague which was enough time to enjoy most of the city's highlights.

I'm not sure how many days you have but if it's less than four I'd stay in Britain: York or Edinburgh. You could also Eurostar to Paris which is always a delight.

Have a terrific time deciding.
