O.k., let's talk about those European Bathrooms!
I never even gave it a thought until a co-worker told me about his experience of using a restroom in Italy. The famous Bidette!

He said it was quite an experience because he thought it was a urinal! Am I going to get in trouble starting this thread? I'm honestly trying to be very honest here. I have heard of them, but never used one. He also told me that some of the bathrooms are literally showers with a toilet and a cover for the toilet paper in one. Interesting! Anyone else have stories to share?

Reyna - I was traveling from Venice to Verona on a day trip an accidentally got off one stop to early at a practically deserted train station. I had to wait a couple hours for the next train, and in the meantime....well you know!

I went to the washroom, and it was basically a hole in the floor - granted it was a porcelain hole in the floor that flushed - I was in quite the dilemma as I was wearing jeans...
I'm sure you can figure out the rest of the story.
When I asked someone working at the train station about it he laughed and said something to the effect that it used to be that women in Italy wore dresses with nothing underneath, so when they went to the bathroom all they had to do was pull up the hem and let it go! So apparently this was an 'old fashioned' toilet...
Nowhere else did I encounter this, so hopefully you don't have to worry!

To Troll Hater:

I was hesitant about posting this subject because I didn't want to offend anyone. It was an honest question, and frankly I don't know much about bidets and found my co-worker's story quite funny. I thought it could be an entertaining thread.

Sorry about the misspelling. I also got that from my co-worker. I failed to look it up in the dictionary. Thank you for the correction.

It pays to research your country, ladies, before you travel. I always wear a skirt when travelling in 'third world' countries, for reasons mentioned above. And, when in an auto, and all else fails (public rest stops are a pretty new invention) it is much easier to handle the situation. And yes, a hole in the floor that flushes is pretty common in most countries (outside of cities). Just be prepared and remember 'you are not in KaNSAS' anymore,.
