Ok, let's be honest, what don't you like about London

Yes, the lack of trash cans because of fears of bombs is a sad commentary -- but since it's been going on so long, I can't say it's about "modern life" but about life in general.

When I took my children to London last year, we asked the security guard at Euston about the lack of trash cans. His matter-of-fact manner in explaining the reason was quite startling to my kids. But just a few weeks later, in September, they remembered him and his stoicness, and it gave them strength to help them get through the changes that the US had to go through: living with terrorist precautions clearly was do-able.

I can't think of anything I hate about London - except it's expensive. But I don't shop! And I love the tube! Where I live in the U.S. (a large city) there is practically no such thing as public transportation, so I was absolutely thrilled with the tube the first time I went there. I think the Londoners who complain are just spoiled. And Paris' Metro is even better!

You're all spot on! Expensive, lacking atmosphere, dirty, smelly, rubbish everywhere, run down transportation, and not to mention terrorists threats. Honestly, I'd rather stay in the US where things are just so much better. Thanks for your travel tips.

I can't stand it when I go into Harvey Nic's and someone with a working-class accent waits on me. Somehow a Shoreditch drawl does not meld with Miu Miu. Take some elocution lessons already, it isn't that difficult. Im mean its bloody hell when you expect to hear Edith Evans and you get someone who sounds like a down-and-out mess drinker from Brixton. Oh, where is Prunella Scales when you need her????

as a native I can tell you that there are only two things in London that are absolutely intolerable:

Arsenal Football Club

Chelsea Football and hotel group (buy now while stocks last).

At the moment I have also got the right hump with the road being dug up in Holborn, adding another 30 minutes to my journey in.
