"Paris Blues" with Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Sidney Poitier, and Dianne Carrol, with a cameo performance by Louis Armstrong. This is an especially great movie for lovers of jazz music, but the Paris scenes will appeal to all. The movie was shown on Bravo or AMC a couple of months ago, so it will undoubtedly be shown again this year.<BR> <BR><BR>

Besides a lot of the aforementioned movies. I think the movie with Meg Ryan called "French Kiss". It was cute. Partially set in Paris and on French Riviera. Romantic Comedy. Have a great trip!

Mary-I didn't notice but if noonementioned it, Queen Margo is also a good Paris atmosphere film,the Louvre when people were living in it!<BR>So when you are standing in the rooms of the Louvre,and look out a window into the courtyard, you can imagine the servants running around,waiting on those people... " ooh la~peel me another grape~"

If the film you are talking about is Queen Margot with Isabelle Adjani, I'd just warn you that it is extremely bloody and violent. It did have good actors, Adjani, Auteuil and Virna Lisi, but it is very violent. If you like historical dramas, you might enjoy the scenes and costumes, I don't remember a lot being in Paris, there are parts in other places (the beginning is about the St Bartholomew's massacre), but it's been 8 yrs or so since it came out.

Sorry, but living in NYC, I am accustomed to seeing a lot of various films from all over the world, we are lucky here in that matter...and I guess as a result of that, I do not find myself bothered by violence in films,or at least films such as these.I am not talking about slasher movies, but when there is a battle or something of that nature in a film, I am not that bothered by the bloodshed..So I do not think to mention it in my recommendations of films, actually,it does not stand out in my memory at all in this film,Queen Margot..

Another vote for Diva and Frantic. I would add to that La Balance, which includes several cast members from Diva (most notably the guy detective). Get a subtitled, not dubbed version.<BR>I am one of the few apparently who did not like Amelie. It was cute, but also fake. Many of those charming Parisian scenes exist only on computers. I'd rather see a real Paris, warts and all, than a cutesy ersatz version.

Hello All, just checking in!!<BR><BR>Finally saw "Ronin" this past weekend. And must have to agree that it was a great movie - OMG, the CAR CHASE! Wow. De Niro was excellent (not a huge De Niro fan normally, sorry, but loved him in this).<BR><BR>Bloody & violent movies don't bother me as long as the movies are well-made. After all, I loved "Reservoir Dogs" surely one of the bloodiest movies I've ever seen. But smart!! So I'll try to find "Queen Margo". Definitely sounds interesting.<BR><BR>BT, I'm sorry you didn't care for "Amelie". But I respect your opinion. Maybe what I liked was the fact that it was cutesy/charming. For the person who loved Jean Seberg: you must rent "Bonjour Tristess" based on the novel by Francoise Sagen. She plays David Niven's daughter and she is darling. I think part of it might take place in Paris. Also watched "Last Tango in Paris" for the first time in 20 years. Had forgotten the erotic nature of Brando speaking French!

La Balance, Mary C. is a great film. i recently saw the Brotherhood of the werewolf..and loved it would like to see a thread about that, as I see a very good connection with the KKK and Cardinal Law and the pedophile priests here in the Boston area.

Mary, glad to hear you liked Ronin. I'd read that, prior to making it, the director, John Frankenheimer, boasted he was going to do two great car chase scenes, and I'd say he certainly pulled it off. He also talked about the appeal of doing the movie, saying something like "When you see a script that says 'Start in Paris, then cut to Nice', you really want to do that movie." <BR><BR>Anyway, if you liked "Ronin", I'm sure you'd like Roman Polanski's "Frantic", a very good thriller. <BR><BR>Frankenheimer also has another excellent film from a number of years ago, this one a political thriller set in Rome during the "reign" of the Red Brigades when they kidnapped and killed former Prime Minister Aldo Moro, called "Year of the Gun."
