Oia lodging choices?
 

I know these questions are repetitive but I checked and couldn't find specific posts to help with my question. We will be in Oia for 4-5 days in June, and have narrowed it down to a few places that have openings within our price range. We are looking for (obviously) as much of a great unobstructed view of the caldera, volcano, and sea as we can get with a balcony. We also wanted something more in keeping with a sort of old Greek style (not modern) simple, white washed hotel. A studio or kitchenette is one of our requirements, as well as nothing within a lot of foot traffic past the door. A pool would be nice, but not a deal breaker. I know that I am asking a lot at 100-125 E per night, but I am hoping that it can be done!!! The following places have openings, and I have tried to kind of compare them (using posts, and the actual sites), but if anyone else might be able to add some insight, I would really appreciate it. The places are: Lauda Hotel, Lena's House, and Strogili House (a little higher $) If anyone has other suggestions or advice, I would welcome it. Thanks much!

Lauda is in the best location of the three for proximity to the village sqare, and has a great pool, one of the best in Oia. It's down below the main pedestrian pathway so no one will be passing by your balcony.

Strogili is located about 15 minutes' walk from the village square and part of that walk is along the narrow main road where there is a lot of traffic and no sidewalks. The rooms themselves are down below the road so they are private. The pool is up on the street level (but not visible from the street) about 50 yards from the hotel. The views are great.

Lena's House is in a quiet area of the village with very little noticeable/annoying foot traffic.

All 3 have excellent views of the sea, the village and the caldera.

There is a public-access pool in Oia on the sunset end of the village. Admission is free but you're expected to buy food and drink. http://www.lioyerma.gr

We will be in Oia in June and we have a cave room at the Filotera Villas http://www.filoteravillas.gr/home.html. We only booked a few weeks ago and they had availability.

Thank you Brotherleelove for the advice-I did go ahead and book (by phone!) the Lauda Hotel. It is such a help to be able to receive specific advice from fellow travelers on Fodors! I have read many of your postings and you seem to be very well-traveled, knowledgeable, and generous with your suggestions.

Thanks also Travelfridge, but the Lauda Hotel is more in our price range.

The Lauda looks beautiful! I know that the islands are steep and I wonder how someone with a bothersome knee might fare there?

The streets and pathways in the clifftop villages are uneven and there are lots of steps to climb.

Thanks - that's what I was thinking. It's still beautiful though.
