OIA Hotel difficulties..HELP..

I am going to Oia From September 7th-11th. I really wanted to stay in Oia becuase I thought it was charming that we could go right down to the fishing village and swim and eat. Please tell me if I'm worng and you have another suggestion... But my question is. I am having difficulty picking a hotel.

These are the hotels I liked that were in my price range but are booked- Ikies, Nostos, esperas, Artina, Residence.

These hotels so far I have found that do have availability, Oia Mare, Alexanders ( which I love but they would need us to change rooms twice in a 4 night stay because of lack of availability),La Perla Villas.

Any advice. I really want something with a pool ( i think that is important since it will be hot out). and i want something stylish, like Atrina and Residence. Our budget is 200euro to 250 euro per night.

Do you have an opinion on whether we should just wing it when we fly in on the 7th. Our flight gets in at 6:30pm. Is there a chance we could get a room at an expensive hotel/apartment at a discount rate if it is really last minute?

Any advice would be great.
After Santorini we are spending 4-5 days in Sifnos. Which will be a pretty mellow relaxing end to our trip...

yvonnebird,

We visited Oia in July, and really loved it. However, I think it will still be full of tourists in early September. So I would not dream of going there without a reservation.

We stayed at Perivolas, which we actually didn't like much at all. But I just heard about LAVA OIA TRADITIONAL HOUSES, and I would definitely look into that for your trip. It should be within budget for you, and looks absolutely amazing. Also, it has been recommended by another poster here, BROTHERLEELOVE2004, who seems to be extremely knowledgeable about Greece.

As far as swimming goes, there is a stone pier down at the bay in Oia, but for real swimming, you'll have to take a car to one of the beaches on the other side of the island.

Anyway, have a great trip! And make sure to try one of the fantastic fish restaurants down at the bay in Oia- either KATRINAS or DIMITRIS.

Oia is very popular and the hotels do book up fast. Last year I tried getting a room at Esperas for a friend and called in May for a room in September and the hotel was all booked then. She ended up staying at LaPerla and loved it. She didn't book the cheapest room but the second cheapest and then was upgraded to a lovely large suite. There was a very negative review of the hotel on this board last summer as well but my friend's experiance was nothing but positive. I did notice their rates have gone up a lot since last year I would be tempted to ask if they were running any specials. Good Luck!

The Residence does not have a pool, only a large unheated spa for cooling off.

Oia Mare is in an excellent location for watching the sunset, and is already partially down the steps to Amoudi. The view of the caldera from Oia Mare is partially blocked. La Perla doesn't have a sunset view but does have an excellent view of the caldera as well as being in the central area of the village.

Other hotels with pools and caldera view include Canaves Oia, Volcano's Villas, Katikies and Strogili.

In my opinion the best swimming on the island is below Oia at the end of the seawall. The water is calm, deep and wonderful. There's no beach but there are large rocks for laying out. You can also swim across to the litlle rock island where there's a cement platform for sunbathing and a fantastic view of Santorini from sea level.
