Oh, the Places You'll Go!
Need a little help...one week, end-July, two twenty-something NYC friends looking for a vacation suggestion. Think Europe, think exciting, think half "sights", half "scenery". Any ideas on something a little different?

You could pick a country at random (use a pin!) then find out the places there which have the kind of things you're interested in... For some reason, I've got an urge to recommend Prague (and maybe the Czech republic in general) as it's so beautiful (but also with a 'happening' youth-culture) and also it's near great scenery (Bohemia). It really depends what you're interested in... the destination that seems to be the 'in' place this summer (according to the 'trendy' magazines) is Cyprus (and specifically Agia Napa) - although I've never been so can't really comment (I imagine it's mainly beaches - altho' I should imagine there's lots of historic sites).

Sights and Scenery? Could it be Scotland?

On Cyprus, it too has sights and scenery and is not at all as achracterised by Jane. Agia Napa on the other hand would not be on my top 100 list for the country.

If you want to know more have a look at
www.cosmosnet.azias.cyprus

When I was in my mid-20's my best girlfriend and myself went backpacking and ended up settling in Dublin for months! The people are wonderful, there is a lot of history there, great college town, fun parties beautiful countryside *outside of Dublin.

Hi, Shoshana,
Splurge: Fly to Nice, rent a hot car, drive around the Cote d'Azur and over to the Dolomites through N. Italy, back. Oh the looks you'll draw!

Not splurge: Fly to London, train to Edinburgh, car to Northwest Highlands, a couple of days walking the hills and moors, just you and the midges, back to Edinburgh for beer and music. Oh the headache (and fun) you'll have!

Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen)or Spain (Seville, Madrid) come to mind...

End of July? Take advantage of the summer weather and visit the cooler climes, like Scotland or Ireland or Wales. Can't beat any of them for scenery and enough history to make your brain explode.
