Hi,

I'm looking for a link to the official Italian tourism website/contact info if one exists. I will be in Umbria in October and am trying to get information on what I'd like to see/do.

There's lots of websites, but most appear to be commercial sites that have some general info and lots of links to hotels, tours etc. but I'm looking for an actual tourist office that can help me get information on events like EuroChocolate etc.

You want to look for "pro loco" - not for italy in general but the city you want to go to.
Having said that - uptodate information is not always their strength.

If you are going to Umbria you will probably find the Bella Umbria website much more helpful. Italy is really a very "regional" county and regional tourist organizations are much more detailed in their websites and keep them up to date.

If you are particularly interested in the Eurochocolate events then you should look at that website but also the website for Perugia tourism.

FYI, the regional and local tourist offices in Italy are generally called "pro loco". So if you do a google search for where you are going that includes the words "pro loco" then you will usually find the local tourist office websites.

However, most are in Italian. If they don't have an English language option then you can usually use Google Translate

I am often able to access a lot of English-language information about Italian destinations on the web simply by doing google searches that use the word "visit" + the name of my intended destination or event. Using the word "visit" will pop out any English language web pages.

Sorry -- I didn't see vinoroma's response (maybe because it was too close to an advertisement on my screen). But we agree that "regional" is the best source for info.

Thanks for all the links.

I had found the italia.it one but in Italian and wasn't able to figure out how to change the language. Now I see there's a small drop down on the top right with the two letter language abbreviations. I was looking for the more commonly used convention of having different country flags to denote which language you wanted presented.

I also found the EuroChocolate website but it is only available in Italian and Google translation leaves much to be desired. Plus I can't find a calendar of events on it. Not sure if it doesn't exist or I just can't find it because of language issues. That's why I wanted to contact a tourist office and see if they could provide the info.
