>>>will he be arrested?<<<
If you're lucky, yes. |

Quite doubtful!
However, given the things that people chose to wear when on vacation in Egypt - thank you for thinking ahead and considering that it might be a problem! As previously noted - you'll get better Egypt-related responses on the Africa/ME forum. |
Hi I lived in Egypt for five years and I doubt he would get arrested, but he might look like an Ugly American tourist. Egyptians are pretty tolerant, but why even risk offending anyone, or looking ridiculous?
|
I was not completely thinking in my earlier response. I completely agree with EuroJen. I lived in Cairo for 4 years and should have answered differently.
Will the tshirt offend anyone? Probably not. Will it make your DH look like tactless tourist? Probably. Will you see tshirts around the tourist spots that are similar in theme? Yeah - but that doesn't necessarily make them acceptable - just marketable! So - it's up to him. Is wearing the shirt "worth" the potentially bad impression it would make on the Egyptians who see it? |
My SIL walked out of their hotel wearing shorts and a halter top. She wasn't arrested, but it only took five minutes of stares to prompt her to go back and change into something more appropriate.
Duh. |
Women in halter tops and shorts, and men in tasteless t-shirts, are two entirely different animals. I'd likely stare at your DH's shirt (and wonder what he was thinking when he went outside in it) even here in San Francisco.
|
Too bad that the Egyptians will see such a poor example of an American.
Does he really not care that some of the people there will think he's typical of ALL Americans (not just the lower class)? |
Your husband is 15 years old and thinks he's funny? Otherwise, I can't imagine even knowing anyone who would print up a t-shirt like that -- let alone being married to him . . . . . .
|
I'm English and I have no idea what "Don't bust my hump" means, therfore its unlikely an Egyptian would understand.
Geordie |
Mmmm...that T shirt is about as funny as watching paint dry #-O
|
Look, if you want to fit-in in a religious fundamentalist society, you'd be better off wearing one of these t-shirts:

Even in SF I'd be staring at the woman in halter top & shorts - but whether it's in shock or awe depends on the woman |

The header says enough: fpsoley considers the T-shirt offensive. The discussion should no go beyond that.
|
I assume that it has a sexual meaning.
Are you the sort of person who likes to look conspicuous? Will you be happy to see your husband attracting looks of pity/disgust/mockery? I'd divorce him if I were you. |
Hi fp,
When will your husband reach his 21 st birthday? > is this considered offensive? will he be arrested?< Yes. Probably not. It is more likely that he will be stoned. ((I)) |

Given that drink and drug use is looked on with great disfavour in Islamic countries, he would probably be arrested for getting stoned. |
