My husband, oldest son and wife and I are leaving in about an hour for our first trip to Italy (first trip abroad)! Thank you everyone who has helped with our planning. I have been reading, reading, reading this forum for the last couple of months and have learned so much from all of you - from packing, to hotels, to trains, to eating, to sightseeing, to shopping.... I will take notes, and maybe I will be able to help a "newbie" someday. Now if I can just learn Italian on the plane....

Have a grand time, don't sweat the small inconveniences, and remember to enjoy the experience! :)

Before my first trip to Italy, my Italian friend told me you only need to know two things to survive in Italy, "Io fame (I'm hungry)" and "Io sete (I'm thirsty)".

Have a wonderful time! If you are like me, your first trip to Italy will only leave you wanting more. When you get home, you can start planning your next trip. :)
