Off to London on 8/5 Last minute advice?
 

Finally, we are off to London on Thursday! Any last minute advice for a first time visitor?

Relax and don't worry about sticking to rigid itineraries, don't fret if you don't manage to see everything that you planned to, it's an holiday, enjoy yourself!

Have a "champagne flapper" at Claridge's bar, or better still, go to Milk and Honey if you can get in. If you fancy seeing a film - The Curzon Mayfair is one of the best cinemas in London.

m_kingdom - how does one go about getting into Milk and Honey? Do you line up, and hope the door staff will let you in if they like the look of you? Or is it a totally private club that one would have to talk one's way into?

Eat lots of scones and clotted cream! Shop in the food halls at Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury, etc. and be sure to pick up some delicious goodies in the food halls at Harrods. I think their bakery is fabulous!:)

Don't expect to see everything on this trip and don't run yourself ragged. London is huge and can really wear you out if you try to cram in too much. Take lots of breaks--go sit and relax in some of the beautiful parks such as Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, St. James, and Regents Park (my favorite). If there are any roses still blooming--stop and smell them (I mean this literally). Have a wonderful trip!!

Have an alternate plan to do something outside London just in case you're allergic to London, as I was 20 years ago.

mk's advice about being flexible is right on the money. You may have to adjust or rearrange your schedule due to any number of factors (sore feet, wanting to spend more time someplace, discovering something else you have to see, etc...)

Wear comfortable shoes, carry a good street map, don't be afraid to ask for directions, look both ways <b>twice</b> before crossing the street and have a wonderful time in London! :)

OK I plan to do a trip report. But I'm not sure if Embassy will be graced with my presence. I'm getting chicken... the guestlist requirements say &quot;guests must be well-dressed, fashionable and trendy&quot;. Fashionable is good, but I don't really think I do trendy that well! haha - we shall see if I get there or not...
And my apologies to Sunburns3 for hijacking the thread. Have a great trip Sunburns... my best advice would be to give yourself breathing room. While I enjoy the tourist sights of London as much as anyone, the most memorable times I've had have been sitting in a pub or bar, or park, just observing people, eavesdropping or chatting with others perhaps, and absorbing ambience. Enjoy!

Will not go to Embassy - difficult for a Wombat to be well-dressed and trendy - fashionable is no problem.

So will continue to frequent Eefes on Gt Titchfield St for the best kebabs in London - and wash down with a pint of Youngs...MK2 eat your heart out

Buy a copy of Time Out at the airport so you can use the journey to work out what's on while you're here. Or buy a copy each!

I mean, of course, your London airport and the journey into town!

My dears, I feel that if my ultra detailed trip reports aren't enough to prove my provenance I should start one of these ghastly online photo affairs so you can all share the fine points of my hotel room, sans moi of course!

Oh but a hotel room is just a room, but you..

I would also like to recommend Mayfair Club, however, this has a guest list for the guest list so unless you have a super concierge I'd forget it. If you can get in there, please note that one of the bars is cash only!

Be wary of large nightclubs like Caf&eacute; de Paris - they can be good, but the whole Leicester Sq. area is far from desirable.
