Off the beaten path, Burgundy
 

Will be spending two weeks with my parents in Burgundy in the fall.

Any suggestions on quirky sites, unique museums, tiny towns, small restaurants and/or wineries?

Any thing that might not be in the guide books ... although feel free to recommend anything you like :)

Do you like to cycle? I think that one of my most memorable experiences in Burgundy is cycling through the vineyards, from Beaune to Santenay.

I'm a huge fan of Colette, the writer. In her village, Saint Sauveur-en-Puisaye is a museum dedicated to her in the castle.
You can see her personal items, the bed-ridden desk she worked on. Each step going up us a title of her books.
There a room upstairs that shows films adapted from her
books. A tea room and small book selection is also there.
Nearby In Avallon by a stream, I always staid at the Moulon du Ruats. The only place, MFK Fisher and later me, had the true Bleu Truite.

Burgundy is such a wonderful area with so much to offer. Some of my favorite lesser known places are Chateau Guedelon where they are building a castle using medieval methods (www.guedelon.fr ) and Vauban's home in Bazoches (www.chateau-bazoches.com). If you go to Vezelay (and you should), you can visit Les Fontaines Salées, salt fountains dating from 2300 B.C. ( www.saint-pere.fr/saint-pere-tourisme.htm) and the marvelous L’église Notre Dame Saint-Père
